RE: Re: RE: Non Fiction ideas?

I know its not a non fiction book but Darwins Radio by Greg Bear was really well written and I found out (with a little bit of my own rsearch) that some of the theories involved are really being considered in todays wolrd of genetic engineering. If you like that stuff

RE: Re: RE: Non Fiction ideas?

If you want a book of Truth, Adventure, Hardship, strength, Courage, Sacrafice and Tears, get someone to buy for you "Between a rock and a hard place" By Aron Ralston.

Not only will this book make you realise the true strength and courage of the human mind, it will also inspire you to the greatest things you can do and can be!

I highly recommend it to anyone!!!

This guy (Aron Ralston) is a dead set legend and inspiration in my books!

RE: Re: RE: Non Fiction ideas?

hey Sherm, if you like "Between a rock and a hard place" By Aron Ralston, you will love the aussie story of Warren Mcdonald - "Over the Edge" or a "test Of Will" Double leg amputee rock climber(very similar story to Aaron Ralston's. ).

RE: Re: RE: Non Fiction ideas?

Sins of the Brother - ivan Malat story
To protect and serve - crooked NSW Police dept.
No justice - Sgt. Dennis Tanner , unconvicted murderer (Vic)

Any of the "Underbellies" or "Never to be released" books
Grand Theft - Bill Mason
Richard Branson autobiog

All of the Lance Armstrong Books

I would recommend any of these as some of the better ones i have read in the past 10 months.

RE: Re: RE: Non Fiction ideas?

maybe try steven King or David koontz thier thrillers and horror books but they really good long keep me entertained for a while 8)

It's Dean Koontz isn't it? His books are really gruesome, not a nice feeling after reading them, that's for sure.

Recommend for fiction Wilbur Smith books, or Sydney Sheldon was good policital conspiracy stories.

Non fiction - Can't go past 'Australian Snakes' by Rick Shine, or the 'Complete Chondro' by Greg Maxwell which I have been wanting to get my hands on for a while now.

Have a good read!! :)

RE: Re: RE: Non Fiction ideas?

Patricia Cornwell and her 13+ novels on the Dr Scarpetta Series, great forensic crime solving from a law/forensic point of view, i think you will love them.

RE: Re: RE: Non Fiction ideas?

Mr K, if you want a damn good autobiography then look no further than " Life is too short" by Mickey Rooney. Mickey has lead an awesome life with lots of up and downs. As you read the book you'll swear you're there with him as he conquers Ava Gardner, breaks down in tears, gets beat up, loses thousands gambling, grows up in poverty, watches as his mum prostitutes herself for his sake, becomes the biggest star of the 1940's, becomes rejected by Hollywood, kicked while he's down, cheated by agents and studio heads, buys mansions he cant afford, marry's 8 times and survives it all. I have this book and i read it all the time. Thats him in my avatar.

For sci-fi you MUST read "Planet of the apes" by Peirre Boulle.
The most brilliant idea ever put on paper. Full of imagination and with some great turning points and different to the films.

RE: Re: RE: Non Fiction ideas?

Mr K.

If you want non-fiction/autobiography and animals all in the one book, you can't go past any of Gerald Durrell's books. Especially his early ones, which detail his adventures in the Cameroons during the 40's and 50's (The Overloaded Ark, The Bafut Beagles, A Zoo in My Luggage), or in South America (The Drunken Forest, Three Singles To Adventure, The Whispering Land).

Probably his most famous work was My Family and Other Animals, about his life and pets growing up in Corfu during the 1930's. In 1959 he started his own zoo in Jersey where he kept and bred mnay endangered species. They are, in my opinion, one of the foremost conservation organisations in the world. If it wasn't for Durrell and his zoo then the White-eared Pheasant, Pink Pigeon, Mauritus Kestrel, Echo Parakeet, Telfair's Skink, Gunther's Gecko and Round Island Boa would all be extinct today. These success stories are detailed in some of his later books.

RE: Re: RE: Non Fiction ideas?

Thanks serpent, angel and Hix, I will most definately have a look for em - sounds really interesting.

there was one more book that i absolutely loved that i left out of list before and it is" catch me if you can" by Frank Abagnail. It plops all over the movie and details to the finest on how he lied, cheated and manipulated everyone and thing in his path......a fantastic book even if you have seen the very rushed and undetaled movie.
