Odd scales

My python has a patch of about 4 or 5 large (mid-body) scales that are brown around the edges. i'm not really worried, just wondering what it might be from. they look kind of like leaves or petals that have been burnt from heat or dryness. he had them when i got him last month, and i though it was just some old scales from his shed.

any ideas? :?

he did have mites when i got him. not anymre though. would they do that?

Im not sure unless maybe they got underneath the scales? Maybe some experts can enlighten us...
