Hi all,
Im after some opinions on mp3 players.

I am looking at the ipod range (shuffle, mini, 20 and 40gb ones). Any others you reckon would be good.

Also, instead of mp3, im kind of looking at mini disc aswell.

For an active person; running, bike riding ect ect what would you recommend, mp3 or mini disc?

Cheers, Alan.

Hey sherms
I had my ipod out at parkos (not that you gave it a chance in hell of playing a song)but I have the 40gb iPod and its more than enough the mini would probably suffice or just get the 20gb the 40gb is great but im never going to fill it, well not for a few years yet!

The only problem I have found with the Ipod's is that u cant just plug them in as an external drive. U need I-Tunes to download songs to it. I have a mini and it is more than enough in terms of space. 20 or 40 GB would be good if u are using it as a portable hard drive.

Would min-discs skip like discmans ???

Sherman , i i would reccomend getting either a normal i pod (20g), i think these guys range from about $450-500. Or if you want to go up a range you could get an i pod colour which are 30g ($550). These are really good quality and can hold images and allow you to see them on the screen (pretty good quality).
Please dont get a mini. I am thinking that you have a decent sized music collection so a mini probably isnt an option.

Another advantage of i pods is that they have a huge range of accessories. Contrary to popular opinion ipod's, especially the new clicker wheel style have a relativly good battery life.

If you want it just to listen while you are doing sport then maybe an i pod shuffle is a good idea. They only hold a few hundred songs but are really small and light. Plus they are cheap. But they dont have a screen so you can see what songs you are playing.

Mini dics are good but are becoming dated very fast.

Regards Alex

thanks guys, but i bit the bullet and got the mini.

Its pretty cool, i only need a few hours songs on there anyways as im only using it as a travel music player (buses, trains, bike riding ect) so it should do the trick.

And yeah, the only thing i dont like is you do need itunes to put stuff in it which is a bit of a downer, i didnt know that till i bought the thing. lesson learnt kiddies, do your homework before purchasing!!!! Oh well, should do me fine anyways.

Cheers, Alan.

My mate keeps other files and stuff in his ipod so i dont think you just need itunes. Ill ask him about it later.

Im transfering files into it right now, so no, you dont need itunes to put files in, but you do need it to put songs into it so you can actually play them on the ipod.

I saw an ipod of whales once, no doubt they were playing there own music!
seriously young people, dont go about with screaming crap in your ears, youll get plenty of that daily once ya married with kids! Sometimes the best sound is silence! :D

Did you get the new 6 gig one sherm ?
I love my ipods ! Personally i dont think you can get any better then them .

Yes you do get the itunes with it But download the newest version from the web its got a lot of updates .

I've had the 20gig ipod for about 8 months now
Best toy ive brought in years
My whole cd collection is now on it 3,500 songs
With a twirl of the finger i can listen to any cd i want thru my main stereo system
Also have speakers in my motorbike helmet
And its my alarm clock in the morning (through computer speakers)
You'll love it Sherm

ipod software isnt reduced to itunes. there is a program called copypod, which allows you to take things from any ipod and store to your pc.
Also a program called ephpod which is sort of like itunes without the annoying feature of updating the ipod evrytime you change soemthing.
you can just drag and drop music in and thats all it will update.

i've had a 15gig ipod for about 2 years and i love it, goes everywhere with me.

haven't used itunes for about 18 months, i hate it.
