your first mistake elizabeth was opening the door.. I've always had a rule with friends that they never "just pop in unannounced" and always call me first to ask if I'm home and if its ok to come around. So if ever someone has knocked at the door without a prior arrangement then its someone I don't want to see and I never open the door to them. and if its someone I know I usually call them after they have gone and ask if it was them and if they called me to ask if it was ok to come around (which the answer is no) and suggest they please never do that again.. If they take offence to me being offended by their bad manners then bad luck. I usually don't let anyone (even people I know) see my animals because it's human nature that will tell everyone and sundry about it which is a security risk. and I don't let reptile people ever come around because of security and quarantine issues.

If people want to see animals and reptiles they can go to the zoo :D I find most people naturally rude (I'm pretty rude myself at times) and most people will use you if you give them the chance and opportunity.. It's the one's who don't and who treat you with some manners and respect that I find I like the most and am comfortable with. these are the one's I call friend's and the others transient aquaintences..

Yeah totally understand, my mates are very respectful they dont really touch anything other than look and ill take one of my frillies out who handles well and doesnt fret, other than that though the rest of my guys are off limits (bar my bearded dragons). Seem to have more trouble with Family/Family friends they think they have a right to just go in and touch whatever they want however now ive set it all up in the shed ive padlocked it and only i have the key.

I just say....no sorry it's not a good time...and I'll let you know when it might be sometime in the future. There are little kids in my street, and I know they're only kids, but they sometimes ask if they can come in and hold my stimmie and I just say no....he doesn't like to be looked at and held very often....too bad if they don't like it. If they turn up to the door I just don't let them in....sorry, this isn't a good time for me...and close the door !!!

You should change your username to GrumpyGranny. :D

In all seriousness, I wouldn't have the hide to invite myself into someones place, let alone invite other people. It's beyond rudeness. I would have told her to go and get _____.

Hi everyone and Colin

My mistake was that I was in bed asleep and my son who was going to work had opened the door to leave and she was there....so he came back inside to let me know she was there and of course stupid me who was half asleep went to the door...I was in my dressing gown with hair like 'fajitas' as my kids used to say (they mean vegetas from dragon ball z so you get the picture...i think my husband calls it XXXX hair.....) anyway I should have known I was in for it when she didnt say 'dont worry ill come back later'......so i went and had a shower while she waited to have a chat......

where oh where were my boundaries...they teach us such good sense of boundaries at work......still im not going to do that to myself again.what happened !!

Wow. Obviously she didn't think about how she would feel if someone invited their friends over to her place without asking... I hate it when people are rude like that! I've had a few people come around to see my snakes that I didn't know, but they were friends of my mother who I live with. The difference there is that they asked to come over. Anyone who comes to our place will see snakes, there's 5 tanks in the lounge room which is at the front of the house. I'll be making sure people know that just because they were invited over it doesn't mean they can tell all their friends and expect to treat the place like a zoo.

It was very rude of your 'friend' to talk about herself the entire time and not even ask you how you are... she needs a smack in the head :D

Glad to hear you're feeling better now, don't let people walk all over you. Asking people nicely not to do things like that doesn't always work, sometimes you have to be very blunt and to the point. If this 'friend' gets upset when you tell her this behaviour isn't acceptable she needs to take a good look at herself, you deserve friends who treat you better than that!

You were still in your dressing gown and she didn't ask if you wanted her to come back later? It sounds like her mother needed to teach her some boundaries, or common (uncommon these days) courtesy. Who hangs out at someone else's house uninvited while they're going through their morning routine?? I've got friends, real friends, who I've known for years and I don't do that unless I've actually slept at their house.

I sometimes wish people would drop in unannounced, I work long hours so therefore don't tend to socialise much and tend to have reasonably boring weekends at home. Would be nice to get the odd random visitor.

I myself try and keep people from knowing i have a python for the same reason you like to keep it hush hush. But your friend needs to learn some manners, i certainly wouldn't let her bring those people over at the expense of everyone in the neighborhood knowing you own special animals, i am very careful, i only have one animal but she is a gem of a thing, would be very angry to sayy the least, i had my stimson stolen about 3 years ago, its a **** feeling. I would blankly refuse to let that person and others near your collection.
