wen we first got our darwin carpet he was still a juvie but really aggressive. The main thing that seemed to help with him was not to flinch wen he bites coz it seems to show that they hav sum affect, up until we stopped flinching we were going no where but now he is a very quiet snake.

Ackie, my first pair of Darwins were the true spawn of hell. If you walked past their cage they ignored you. But as soon as you opened the door they would literally come out of their cage to attack you. They were not defencive in the least. It was all offence and they would chase you just to bite

Fuscus, my Spencers Monitors are nearly as big as a lacey, most people state after looking at mine that they never knew they grew so big

i just came across my most aggresive animal, it was a massive bluetongue crawling around a bike path. i didnt hink they could jump

The two spencers I saw at bigguy's house today were well over 4 feet long, I wouldn't want to take a hit of one of them.

hey snakewrangler did you acquire another herp today? if so what did ya get?

yeah mate, got myself a female bredl. Beautiful little critter, and I am working hard to force myself to leave it alone for a week or so to let it settle in. Damn hard I tell ya. :)

I get told the same thing, and I don't own any monitors
LMFAO.

Hey snake wrangler, are you supposed to wait a week before you handle a new snake?
I have been handling my MD and Bredli since the day I got them. They both eat okay so I guess they arn't too stressed.
How can you tell if your snake is getting stressed, other than not eating?

Just go with your gut feeling Stiffy, some new snakes I handle immediately and others seem to want a settling period. You're the one holding the animal so you're the one with the best chance of knowing how it's feeling.

Yeah, pretty much what Afro said, but when I got my first 2 snakes I was told by heaps of people to wait, so now I am just going wait a bit.

I wont last a week, but hey at least I'm trying. :)

With a name like Stiffler I'd stay away from Bigguy's Spencers.

I've heard that scrub pythons tend to have a lot of attitude, and unlike a lot of other species, they don't lose the tude as they get older and bigger. Will find out for myself next year hopefully :D

I've heard that about scrubbies too, but I've seen and handled some whoppers which were very tame. I've never kept one, so don't know too much, but will probably get them within a week of having the space.... one day...

I would have to say two particular olives pop to mind and in general hatchling jungles can be pretty feral in their social skills and maintain it thru to adulthood.
Regards Rina

I've got a couple of Retic that used to have a serious attitude problem. The one (as some will recall) bit me on the forehead, and the other gave me stitches on my hand. Horrible bit. My little double het female Burm was pure evil when I first got her too. She must have tagged me about 12 times. They're all pretty good now.
