So my 8 mo old stimmys tongue isn't coming all the way out. Like only the tips of his forks are, but then he wi'll extend the whole tongue.

He was a bit cold when I got him out to clean.

His hide is half on, half off the heat mat so he can go to the back to get cooler and to the front to get warmer so he has that option.

His forks were not sticking together, they are separate so he doesn't appear to have RI.

Is it just because he was a little chilly? Havent seen it before so it kind of freaked me out.

I'm having trouble finding anything either -_-

I saw this old thread. Could he just be cold? https://aussiepythons.com/forum/showthread.php/152895-Need-help-stimmy-s-tongue-notcoming-all-the-way-out

Going to offer him a feed tonight. If he's sick he will likely not eat. I hope it's nothing.

I just don't see how he could be sick.... He has a really nice hotspot of about 35 he can go to, if he wants to cool down he can move to a cooler spot within his hide. Am I being paranoid? I'm watching him like a hawk now

The tips of his tongue comes out a little bit and then goes back in like normal, then sometimes he will extend his full tongue and other times he wont. I have only observed this happening today.

Oh ok.coz ur 1st line u said ur ?stimmys tongue isn't coming all the way out? and then a couple of lines later u said the exact opposite saying he extends his whole tongue. So I was wondering which 1 it was. Also what do u think his tongue should be doing for it to be normal??

For it to come out all the way when he sticks it out, instead of just the top tiny fork tips sticking out.

Ahhhhh? righto.not sure how to word it properly so will leave this for another user to answer

I am not really sure what you are asking? Are you asking if it is normal for your snakes tongue to sometimes come all of the way out and sometimes only the fork come out? Very confusing post.

What I'm wondering, is, is it normal for Him to sometimes only poke the tips of his fork out, instead of his full tongue. :) sorry for the confusing way I put it.

Alright.

Sorry if it was a stupid question, none of my snakes have ever only poked just the tiny tips out. They have always just poked it all the way out or not bothered. (from what I had seen)

I will keep an eye on him just incase. Thanks andynic07 and Porkbones

You seem a pretty keen keeper from your participation on the site, sofar. It might be worth getting an infrared thermometer so you can take the teperature of the snake as opposed to the temperature of the snake. Sometimes a snake may not use a hotspot, particularly if it feels a little exposed and so can get cold which may lead to RI . Your post implies that you are aware that non tounge flicking can be an indication of RI, which is right, so taking the temperature of your snake may give you some reassurance.

Alright, Thank you so much for your reply @wokka. Do you have any idea where I can get a reliable infrared thermometer, I'm fine to buy it online or in a store. You're right, it would really give me some reassurance and put my mind at ease.

Also, when I get the IR Thermometer, what temp should my Stimmy be at ( High and low end ) ? I've only ever monitored floor temps.

The first one I bought was well over $100 from a pet shop and then i imported a few hundred a sold them for $30 making a profit. I beleive you can get them on line for as little as $10 and in shops now , about $50. Whatever you buy you need to calibrate against you existing thermometers or an ice slurry. There is also a bit of variation depending upon how you use them and from how far. Use the APS search engine as there has been lots of discussion in the past.

Thank you again for your help! I'll certainly get right on it :)
