mate it is up to you. i would say start with something easy to take care of like a coastal, any of the childreni family, morelia family ( excluding green tree pythons). do some research into each snake look at the diffrent colour/pattern that can be produced, how they handle etc.

a first timmers snake is usually a childrens, well thats what i tarted with, they very easy to handle and feed and very placid, then i moved up to a bredli python, all so very placid and easy to handle and feed, i have 3 of them, and i also have a 7foot olive python, she gorgeous love her to bits. But i would say start with a children's aor a bredli.

About 2 years ago I got my first snake. A childreni, and I have never had
any problems with her.:D A great feeder, lovley colour, and she has a
beautiful
temprament. :DNow I have two. They're beautiful snakes.:D:D

Dragon1

i agree dragon 1 childrens are gorgeous, i also love my bredli's i have 2 normal coloured, and one hypo, his so beautiful.

Its all up to you, I've got a spotted and would you believe I got a snake to get over my fear of snakes (she was a mothers day present) I haven't handled her as much as I would like just from having the fear but everytime I do shes fine, My 4 year old son has been head butted by her twice just because he went in to fast to pat and scared her but she hasn't even struck yet... But as I said its all up to you, this post will get everyones experience from their first snake and what their snake was like which is good, I did what you have done and asked the "what snake should I get for 1st snake?" then once I narrowed it down to 2 I then asked again... Everyone on here is very helpful with info like that!!

thats the same with me LEEZEL73 i was so scared of snakes even lil baby ones, ones in books or movies. i would egt that scared i was shake, start crying and could hardly breath. Then one day my partner took me to the australia zoo and i told him i have to hold the big snake to try and get ova my fear. Well i did it, in the picture im even crying and since that day, i love them i own five now. 1 Childrens, 3 Bredli's and a 7 foot olive.

wow becca!!! I just felt sick in my tummy, my son loves snakes and one of my husbands friends have 5 snakes and when we went there all my son wanted to do is get the snakes out, I would have to go into the next room as I felt all yuk..

Hahah, the general beginers snakes are carpet pythons (moreala) in most of their subspecies and anything from the Antaresia species.
Antaresia species includes Childrens Pythons, Stimsons Pythons and Spotted Pythons.

I have a 7 month old spotted python I got as a hatchie, and I couldn't ask for a calmer, nicer creature. Sure he snapped a bit in the first few weeks, but we were both getting used to each other.
He has only refused a feed when he was shedding, and is brilliant with children... He got poked pretty hard by a 2 year old once when I didn't realise the child was there (he was trying to pat him, and could only manage a poke) and rather than strike, he just retreated into my sleeve.
Of course all snakes have different personalities, but if you ask your breeder for a calmer hatchie which is feeding well, you should do great!

If your not worried about size you could go any where from a stimsons to a scrub python, i would start from a stimsons , as common they are in captivity they are still a excellent snake. They make a wonderfull pet.

i like spotted pythons.they are very small and i have heard they are not that expensive

mate get a jungle python i did few months back for my first snake wldnt trade him for the world

my first was a spotted and hes great, a bit snappy at first but he calmed down. then soon after i got an MD and shes even better she hast even bitten me yet!
watch out once u get 1 snake youll want more and more! :)

coastals are the way to go for beginners as they are such good handlers and get to a good size and vary in colors so much
