If you don't like it, don't buy it. just means more in the newsagents for those who do, or for browsers who may then decide to keep reptiles.

By the way, got the subscription for christmas. it was my favourite present - apart from the reptile bowls - and i will be renewing it.

Thank you for coments and essential feedback on the latest issue, there are always notes I make when I finally get an issue out and happily will take negatives and positives from each issue. Distribution was increased again in this issue as we try to match demand. The albino was a very hard piece to put together due to the large number of herpers to collect images, text etc and the other photographers required to get the issue in time....Whew.

The Thick tail gecko piece I think was a good detailed work finished off with a wide range of animals some never seen before. I was hoping you would all have commented on the Chameleons of Madasgascar poster ....Any feedback on the poster would be great. Reptiles Australia is very young compared to other mags and has been a proven successful Australian product and is written by you Aussie writers, images from Aussie photographers and is printed in Australia by you for you. How lucky you guys are to have such a great friendly forum APS to turn to and discuss all things herps.........

You have my congratulation for latest issue for sure. I am certain that Reptiles Australia will get only better in future.
As some of the members pointed there is always room for improvement.
I can imagine how difficult must be to put together such a complicated product like this.
All the images, stories , advertisements. And arrange production, distribution to all subscribers plus distributions to news agencies. I wander how easy is to get payment from all the people who buy wholesale. To keep accounting must be nightmare also. Most people don't see the other side of the story. It is hard to put things properly together and end up with right product with small profit to keep going.
Well done.

I was kindly given 4 editions of it recently by a fellow member when I was unwell recently. (thanks and you know who you are)

I could see improvements in each edition and I found them pretty interesting and a good read.

The snake road test edition was great.

Argh, Im going to beat my newsagent to within an inch of her life if the mag doesnt arrive soon. Hopefully it will come in tomorrow morning so i have something to read at tafe. (no i didnt actually mean it literally they are just so frustrating some times)

I'm not sure of distribution numbers for the magazine (therefore numbers printed), but you will find full colour magazines cost a small fortune to print - and have a look at the amount of colour in one of them. You will find that the cover price actually covers pretty much the printing cost and not much more.
Compare the cost of RA magazine to a popular monthly computer magazine, or even some of the trashy gossip magazines, VS the amount of ads (and the prices charged by the big mags for their ads), and you will find RA magazine is pretty darn good value for a such a specialised magazine.

I agree 'slightly' that design and layout could be a little improved, but all those other magazines have huge amounts of money and teams of graphic designers.

I say keep up the good work.

Now wheres my free subscription Simon? :)

I wander how the distribution trough news agencies work. Do they get approached by Magazine and given offer? If yes, That must be sort of difficult with so many outlet around the country. Do they have system that publisher can contact one body only and they all get the information?
I just wander about this.
Maybe some of them are not interested , because small customer base, and don't order magazine at all.

as a subscriber i await the magazines arrival eagerly... but in some ways i do have sympathy for those who have voiced concern for it's quality... the number of typos in each issue is getting lower, but there are still enough to bug me... (and being a school teacher i should be used to poor spelling)
Aside from this quibble i am very happy to spend my money on this product, and i will continue to support it in the future... i hope i one day have whole shelves devoted to it...
(and if any one has a spare copy of issue number one...well, i need it to have the whole set!)

hmmm, feedback on the poster... please don't show us things we want and can't have? :)

LOL Jack regarding the spelling, you must be my fan.
Some people a part from me here on APS have horrible grammar. Some of them use the internet shortcut language, and I have no idea what they saying at all.
So I know how you guys reacting when reading my posts.

But humor a side, I would love to be able to use English language in proper way. My bad English skills are stopping me to post to forum more frequently.

you think poor spelling and grammar upsets you? i'm hoping to become a proof reader so it drives me insane!

can anyone tell me what volume reptiles Australia is up to now??

Donk

i can forgive most of what i read on here slateman, especially if the avatar is so humourously goofy lookin'!! ... i actually like chance to lose the rules of grammar on here myself... then again some of the posts on here do make me cringe at times!
da donkey, the current issue is vol 3 issue 4

Hey Slatey, we overlook you spelling 'cause we know that you at least try!
Hey Jack.....did you use to come to Garth's place and buy rats?? You look familiar!

The thing is, the mag needs subscriber support, and hopefully as more subscribers come on board it will get bigger and better. I agree at the moment it is probably a bit short on substance for the price, but I will continue to support it as I don't want to lose it! It is an Aussie publication about Aussie reptiles. Let's wait and see what the future will bring.

on the availability side of things I can get it from any one of 4 of my local newsagents in Logan area of Qld.

Regarding the poster. I sat down to read it and got to the centre spread. Strange, I thought, no poster. I went to tell my son that it didn't look like this copy had one, because he likes to put them all straight on his bedroom wall.
It was already there. He loves it.

I haven't seen the latest issue. Previous issues have not really impressed me. The layout and design are quite pedestrian and I find Ive read it totally in less time than it takes for the bus to get me to work, about 20 minutes. The distribution is something that needs major attention. Subscriptions would appear to be the only way to ensure getting a copy unless previous complaints from subscribers are true in which case you get you copy well after its hit the shelf in a small number of newsagents.
It really needs to improve. The reliance on gratis submissions from the herp community for the bulk of its content is also a worry.
Comes down to the fact, if you want my money i want a bit of effort. I would not classify this as a flagship publication, more a mooring dinghy.
Dont get me started on the postman.

Don't know what magazine your reading but I think it has gotten better with every issue.

i think the magazine is great. but i have missed the last 2 issues cause every bloody newsagency i go to dont have it. am thinking about subscribing. but will wait until i move house or they will bend it in this mailbox
