Hey guys,

I found a bluetongue in my backyard today, poor thing had large ticks around it's ears and on the eyes. I brought it in and followed an online how to forum to remove the ticks, I managed to get all of them, heads and all so problem one is down. However there are still two problems that concern me, it's spine is visible and I have never seen that on another bluetongue before, is this normal? It is in good shape health wise as it's kind of chubby so eating isn't a problem, still waiting to sew it eat before I make any assumptions. It looks like it may be female because she has a few scars along her left hand side, and it doesn't use it's front left leg as it looks very swollen and when it does use it, it looks like it's broken or dislocated but I'm not too sure. I will deffinately post some pics up later tonight showing these problems. And just so you all know I do plan on releasing it when it's better.

hi dippy, do you have anypics of the spine and leg you can post?

If it's chubby and you can see it's spine more than likely the poor thing is gravid

Yes miss 2 I took a bunch of pics will upload them when I get home as I am on my phone at the moment, I'm hoping she is gravid lol because that means her bloodline will thrive in my area :)

thats very sad, sounds like he needs a vet for broken bones??hope it works out. good luck

As it is a wild bluetongue I think the vet will take it away from me, doubt if I'll be told how she goes. Going to take her to the vet tomorrow :( but on the other side of the fence, today marks a very big day for my other young bluey and he has just had his first shed since brumation and while I caught him pooping had confirmation that he is definitely a boy, appropriately named Spyro :)

congrats with spyro, as for the other one maybe some pics before the vet and you may not need to. Its a hard life for wild reptiles. if she is gravid maybe its best to keep her until she gives birth then take her? i dont know but would the vet just euthenise her or try to fix her? either way still sad.

i would agree with WildTouch that shes probably gravid, the damaged leg could have been broken in the breeding process if she didnt submit readily,..

i'd call WIRES, it sounds like she'll need some help.

I named him Spyro because:

Spyro, is a dragon... Which as everyone knows a reptile. And Spyro is and always will be the childhood icon for both me and my fiancé lol.

As for the rescued Blue tongue, she has been given to the vet and they said they will call us before a decision is made. I just hope she'll be ok, but I suppose the vet is the only place she will get the proper care for her broken shoulder.

Good luck with your bluetongue, hopefully she gets better.
The vet should definetely be able to keep you up to date with her progress :)
