About a month or so ago my Jungle shed, but left about the last 4 or so cms unshed on the tip of his tail.I found this while checking his shedded skin and straight away soaked the tip in luke warm water and thought i had managed to remove it all but know i have seen the last 4 to 5mm on his tail has gone hard and im not sure what to do about it?Will this dead part drop off in time or does it need to be removed?Im seeking the advice of experienced keepers that have had similar problems in the past not just the usual "take it to the vet" answers. Thanks in advance Troy

Give it a bit of a soak and soften it up, then carefully with tweezers and some patience you will be able to get the last bit of it off.

It is a good idea to, simply so that it doesn’t cause any issues on the next shed - having said that it could be perfectly fine.

The only issue with retained sheds like this is that the retained shed can act like a tourniquet, restricting bloody flow and eventually loosing the tail tip - having said that you have only said it’s a couple of mm.

I personally would remove it, just to be on the safe side.

All the best
Dustin

About shedding problems.... I recently got 5 snakes, 2 CCP, 2 Darwin Pythons and a Diamond Python and none of them have shed at all. I bought them in April and May. The 2 Darwins looked like they had scales starting to shed when I got them but none of them even looks close to shedding. Could someone be so kind as to help me out here as Im still pretty new to the snake game?
Cheers, Nic

if there scales are lifting i would be cheaking them for mites rite away.
get your self a can of top of decent, i always use top of decent for 4 weeks before new snakes i buy even go near my collection.
if you do have mites do all your snake tanks anyway just to be sure

What do mites look like? I mean how do you tell? And where do you get the top of decent from? I bought all the enclosures new for all of them when I got them.

mites look like little black dots that move and somtimes you get fatter ones that when you sqeeze em the pop and its all bloody. get your tod (top of decent) from her trader it you order it today it will be at your house but wednesday.

also follow the instructions on the can to the letter dont cut any corners and please dont spray the enclopsure and leave the snake in there. its a poison and you can kill them with it if you are not careful
