This is just my opinion but I only use 4mm glass because unless you have a 12 foot Scrub python that likes to hit the glass you don't need 6mm. 4mm is more than strong enough for almost all smaller applications, my largest I use it is is around 1200 x 500.
My bloke just arris's the edge, don't waste time and money getting it polished, all he does is very quickly takes the sharp edge off, for nothing.

Are 4mm tracks hard to get though? 5 or 6 mm seems to be standard. shingles enclosure has 4 mm, seems quite sturdy enough. who said DIY was fun? Crikey! :D

I bought my 4mm tracking from LincolnSentry. From memory it was about $100 for 12 metres.
It is easily up to the job, 6mm is just overkill but if anyone feels better using it that's fine but you would be hard pressed smashing 4mm.

When I asked about the difference between 5mm and 6mm, the guy at Macarthur Glass said that for what I was doing the difference in functionality was negligible, and that 5mm would do fine. So I've gone with that.

:p

Hix

Thatnks hix i went to campbelltown glass wasnt a bad deal the lady there had herps too so she got me perspex 4.5mm for same price as 3mm glass!! but that was last time and i need a lot more glass for some new enclosures so ill see what happens, prob is the glass isnt that expensive they just charge 5 bucks a cut thats the prob..

I got mine from my Leadlight supplier - $30/square mt from memory, cost less than $10/tank. Just grinded the edges with my glass grinder ;)
thats easy to say when u got all the gear any way for us that dont have a glass grinder..

4mm glass is plenty thick enough instar and is abt 1/2 the price.. and i also think that finger groves r overated (personal chioce)
i have 3mm glass for my dimonds in the first enclosure i built and they have not broke that..
but now use 4mm glass in 5mm track it seems to work better..
if u want track bunnings has it for $25 a pack top and bott they r abt 2meters long from memory if you do find any cheaper please pm me.
for 10 peices of glass for 5 3*2*2 enc with polished edges and finger groves $160 from obriens glass or $40 for 2 peices goes to say if you buy in bulk u get it cheaper..

Why is that? How would you open the doors without a finger groove or a small handle without smearing the glass each time?

These are some cages I just built, the glass in these cost me $200 all up which I think is pretty good, the whole unit is 2.4m long and 1.8m high.
