i was wondering wat age/size a snake would b if i got it in may if it hatched this year. I was thinking of the bredli and i dont know when people breed them and when they hatch, so if you could tell me how big and how old one would b in may, if it hatched this year, that would b great. :D

cheers,
Will

im not sure what you mean by 'how old it would be if it hatched this year'.
but i know my hatchlings from the season just gone were around 45 - 58cm long.

oh i think i just worked out what you meant...
the usually hatch around x-mas and new year, i think.
so if thats when they hatched, by may it would be about 4 - 6 months old?
and yeah, should be about a foot long. =)
post up some pics when you get your little fella will!

sweet. just 2 make sure, theyre tough right? or are they perfectionists and need really accurate everything?

Will

they are pretty tough, mate. but they still need a good basking spot, and they grow to be around 7-8ft. Have you owned a snake before, or done much research on bredli's?

nope, never owned a snake and am doing my research now as we type.

Will

They are hardy (wouldn't say tuff as they are no Bear Grylls----Quick dig that thread up again) LOL
They are pretty easy to keep & breed. And it would be classified as an advanced hatchling if it has had several feeds, put on some length & weight but wasnt yet a yearling (12 month old)

Will, a snake that age I would class as a juvie or advanced hatchling. Make sure you buy one that has had plenty of feeds and sheds under its belt and find out exactly what it is feeding on when you buy it. Its size will all depend on how much it has eaten, Ive got hatchy Antaresia here now where one is double the size of the other purely because it is a better feeder.
For a Bredli a basking spot of around 33 degrees (maybe up to 35C) should be fine with the other end of the enclosure/tub at room temperature.

sweet, would one of those bigger storage tubs be 2 big? i think its 50 ltrs but i'm not sure, i'll get some measurements and figure it out. And aren't they tree climbers so some hight is good right?

Gday Wiz-Fiz,
I got my second Bredl's last May at the Castle Hill expo. Both mine were bred by Snake Ranch & hatched the same day (different clutches) in mid January. I've found them real easy to handle (but not all are that placid) & neither have refused a feed yet.

I kept mine in PalPens Large size tubs for their first year (not sure of the volume), but they are now in larger 52L Starmaid tubs & I'm currently sorting out their adult accomodation to move into later this year.

Here's how big my girl was last May when I got her (she was only 4 months old then):

I got my first bredli as a yearling in feb this year, hatched the season before. Both the bredlis I've had (though the first one was only short-term) have been a bit snappy, in fact Jagger is still quite twitchy to handle, though he only strikes about half as much as a couple of months ago. But he feeds and sheds well, so I'm expecting him to settle.

Here's a recent photo of mine (I think he's a little small, but I'm in the process of feeding him up!):

OK, cool, thanks 4 the pics, if your just moving them into a 50 ltr thing now, what size click-clack should i start with? 10 ltr? and should it b taller than it is wide or vice versa?

Will

I use 5 litre containers for hatchies.
These are fine for up to 12 months with most carpet species.
I usually move them sooner though as I powerfeed through their first 12 months.

OK, thanks chondro, i'll get a 5 ltr one from woolies next time i go in, and c how i go from there with setting it up.

Will

check the dial up warning-building a click clack thread it should be a sticky... good advice there..
