Right, after starting another debate today I am starting this poll....

Do you use Mutton Bird Oil?

Do you feed your snake/s suppliements? Which ones do you use?

Do you have your own rats, and feed them 'super' foods (fresh vege/fruits and very healthy and loads of nutrients)?

And basically anything else anyone can think of....

no to all of the above and my snakes havent suffered a day tho some fatter mice for the childrens would be nice

thats not to say that super healthy rats is a bad thing either. i guess you could say that what your rat eats effects what your snake eats :) :p

I totally agree with you here Hooglabah. I am feeding my Rats Barrastock pellets, fresh fruit, fresh vege, cereals, seeds, dried fruit and also have been advised to head towards a muesli and/or chaff...

My aim is to see exactly what effect my well fed Ratties have on my beautiful snakes. I am also very tempted to offer a small amount of MB Oil to my Ratties occassionally, just to see what it would do for them. I am not into giving Rats human multi-vitamins as one person told me to do.

I guess most in life is based on trial and error... However I don't wish to error too much with the snakes... Sorry, but Ratties are cheaper to replace!!

Oh- and for those that DO have Rats- How do you worm/suppliment them, if at all?

well mutton bird is the primary prey item during thier breed season for the chappel tiger... but they are beautiful looking snakes to. maybe mb oil is a good suppliment from time to time. unless some1 just had a theory based on that without backup....
anyway i put suppliments and barra bites in my rats food from time to time and mine do fine
???food and suppliments???

What suppliments do you use Shnakeyguy? I was looking at my rats the other day & comparing them with ones from the Pet store. I think my rats are shiny and look better, but I COULD be biased!!

i breed mine and grow them to a desired size. generally when they start to feed i remove the mother and give them a few feeds on grain and barra bites with some veg.
then don't feed for 2 days and give them a mix of reptile suppliments, veg, grain and barra bites blended together, gutload them and freeze them for a month or 2

thats my method for rats intnded for snakes. that way the freeze will kill any bugs and parasites in the rat

lol yeah mine have a gr8 sheen as well... the move has knocked my breeding stock around but thy're pulling through.
there is a pic of my friends bredli thats just 2 months younger than my bredli and mine dwarfs hers, so i think my method works well.. the supps i use are just repti cal and reptivite

I buy mine from a private breeder. as i don't trust my pet shops...whatever she's doing to her rats is working!

gorgeous bredli,
yeah i don't buy anything but frozen or packaged products and fish from petshops, oh and apliances for tanks and enclosures ect. never anything else unless they're a pet shop owned by an exelent breeder and actually cares for the health of their livestock..
mystic and myth have been the best i've found in melb so far. and good advise if you need it

i just give my rats dry dog food as it holds most nutrients vitamins needed for them (according to my vet) and a feed of grain mix every now and then. All are healthy and of good size and snakes seem happy and health
