come on guys anything at all. just a way to make it easier for me and the snake. btw im 14.

Have you go a snake hook/stick to pin it? And before anyone says ANYTHING I do NOT approve of hitting snakes (I doubt you would Speck).

hit a snake? i would never ever ever EVER hit a snake. i dont care i its going to bite me and kill me. i wouldnt harm it in the least. i respect snakes. no i dont have a hook but the snake is in a shelf in a shed or some thing. . i have not yet seen where abouts it is. if its coiled up i will give it a little poke to say wakey wakey and then probaly line it up and grab it behind the neck and then work my way into some space and put it in a big bin so i can relocate it to somewhere else.

And a towel which is what my little brother used (with the stick) at your age to catch an Olive that was about 8 foot long... In a chook coop. I think that is their favourite place!!

As I said, I doubted that you would hit the snake, but my brother was on a remote Cattle Station, so he used a stick and a towel to catch it. Once he knew that it was definately a python (it was half dark when he caught it) he was happy to use bare hands, but until then he was being careful!!

yeh they sure do love chooks. i think i will be doing a few relocations for her because they have heaps out there. im on the gold coast in currumbin valley if your wondering. yeh she needs snakes gone because she has like a million averies at her house and lots of birds in them. she has snake proofed the aviaries but just in case one does get in it would have a feeding frenzy. she has lots of small birds and they have babies and are breeding so they babies are an easy target. cant wait to get the snake. i just love coastal carpets.

how old is your bro. and where abouts do you guys live. or where was the cattle station

she has lots of birds like peach faces, ringnecks, lorikeets, cockatiels, quails, stacks of finches, budgies and very rare grass parrots.

My brother is now 16, and the Cattle Station is in about the middle of the Northern Territory. I live in Qld now, but he is still there... And he's still got to remove the Olives from our Mom's Chook Coop... And the Children's pythons from the main house so the Cook can use the kitchen!! Lol. Then he carries the snake around to torment all the young girls who are scared of snakes. Sound like a young boy?? He loves all pythons, but if a venomous snake threatens him it has to go.

yeh i love pythons. i wish i could come into cntact with them alot more often. i am always looking for them at the property but at the moment there arent many around. i year or so ago i found a clutch of eggs and checked on them all the time. they were surrounded by the mom of course and then one day whent the and they had hatch and the mom wasnt there so i pick up a few. they were so small and placid. didnt even get a strike. best snake experience EVER!

Oooh! Yeah, I can understand why she doesn't like snakes around. But I agree with you that she is going to get a LOT of snakes there- they will be able to smell those birds from a long way off!! Maybe planting some citronella plants or some other very strong smelling plants MIGHT slow down the arrivals a bit, but I don't know for sure.

If the snake is on a ledge maybe just reaching in with the towel may be a good option as you won't be waking it first. But the warmer it is the more likely it will be moving quicker... Or so I have been told.

Just make sure that is IS a harmless carpet snake before you go all steve irwin on it ;)

There is no need to ever pin a wild python unless you need to inspect it for some particular reason. Pinning any snake causes a huge amount of stress. In my opinion, the best way to catch a wild python (if at all needed) is to hold its tail (before the cloaca, not after) and to support its weight with a hook or stick. Then, just guide its head into a box or bag or whatever you're removing it in.

The least amount of contact with you and any other person is the best thing for the snake.

I do agree with you notechistiger, but the question was asking advice- I merely repeated what my brother used. I am not saying my brother is an expert, as I know he isn't... But please remember that in our case we don't kill the pythons around the homestead complex, and we have found re-locating the Olives is futile, so I guess they are now semi-domesticated/used to humans... I am not saying that everyone should do it, as I know that it can have bad effects (especially if my parents were to ever sell- there is no certainty that the snakes would be safe with any new owners).

I doubt he would have been able to 'pin' the snake with a Bullwaddy stick though.

Dont forget to steralize everything you use on any wild snake, just to make sure you dont bring any unwanted visitors home.

yeh i wont harm it at all in anyway. i am relocateing it from about 10 km from oor house. they have lots of land there. i am going to move it because she has many birds that mean alot for her and i will take it back to our place and release it on our property. it is about 15 acears. all around us our neighbours wouldnt hurts snakes. there are no fences between the properties and it can go whereevr it like. on our land we have a plant nursery and there is stack of room. if the snake want to leave or property out the back there is a creeck and after that there is stacks of busland to go. i might be doing a few relocations for her in the near future.
