I don't see a problem with this, after all, we farm crocodiles.

What happens if this caught on and became a world fashion? It would like walking into a pet shop picking an animal and taking it next-door to be turned into a belt or something.
The problem with this is it becomes a choice between ignorance and apathy? Or Hey, I don't know and I don't care scenario but it looks great:evil:.

It’s a very difficult subject as we all wear leather but most have a problem with mink fur jackets or snake skin boots.

It's a niche market, just like crocodile skin products. It'll never be a big thing while animal activists jump up and down. I can hardly see a person taking a $500 Bredli from a "petshop" next door to a handbag sales shop. :|

Skins from animals farmed for the purpose don't bother me, leather and sheepskin are by products of the meat industry and i eat meat so it would be hypocritical of me to not wear leather. however, rare or endangered animals should not be used to be made into fashion accesories, whats next? gecko skin jackets? frog skin bags?

They already make stuff out of toad skin, oh the cruelty

Over 300,000 snakeskins and snake products were imported to the UK in just one year, that’s over 300,000 in just one country in one year!
In China as many as 100,000 Cobras are killed ever year for there skin. That’s just one kind of snake, in one country, in one year!

It all comes down to if they are collected in a sustainable way, those numbers alone dont actually suggest any harm is being done. They also farm snakes for this purpose in some places and that obviously wont have any negative impacts at all on the wild populations.

Im not saying that there wouldnt be some ppl damaging ecosystems or populations (im sure there would be cases of that happening as with all types of animals) but i doubt it would make up the bulk of the numbers.
