On DA, I know Steve has a lot of energy tied up in his presentation but I recall one Attenborough show featuring McKenzies(I think) bird of paradise. A rarly seen or documented bird. Sir D was so obviously overwhelmed by the experience but presented it in a totally different way to Sir Steve. Their overly excited are the antithesis of each other.

i found out while i was out bush that david A WAS FILMING ON THE NEXT PROPERTY.BUT FOUND OUT A DAY TO LATE.i was devistated.last year i was just up the road from steve while he was up the cape researching crocs.i wouldn't waist the fuel to drive the 10 km's to where he was.2 guys from nwps were working there with steve that i know ,one is a mate.david A and the other guy shouldn't even be put in the same sentence as far as i'm concerned.
biguy that was tough luck imagine if steve was governed by the same laws as us he would be in jail for the amount of stressing and torment he inflicts on most of his herp shows..lol

Who, if its not Steve, who IS the GREATEST WILDLIFE WARRIOR ON EARTH? Someone has to be. He has done nought but good for Aussie wildlife. If all the comentators were mirror images of Sir D, wouldn't it be boring. His statement shouldn't get up your nose - its all publicity.

Are the detractors just jealous? Get a life. We need personalities to promote herps and conservation generally. Love his style or not, Steve has heaps of personality and appeals to a large, otherwise uninformed audience. Onya Steve!

i like steve but i put it this way if we did it we would be thrown in the slammer without a question. so i guess we get a camera crew together and say we were told we were allowed. dont get me wrong i think steve is great but i hate the fact there would be no question about wat would happen if it was us.

HARRY BUTLER!...He was great! Is he still alive???

Harry Butler currently works for some large company in WA - a mining concern I think. Has worked for them for years. Forgotten his title, but he makes sure their impact on the environment is minimal.

cool! So he's still around then. I thought when EM said 'he'd pegged it' I thought she meant 'snuffed it' LOL I met HB a long time ago, I got a photo somewhere of him holding one of my pet Green Tree Frogs.

Oh no, he's not dead!

I had him dead and buried years ago - he must be an old fella by now.

I might've been thinking Joe Bredl.

We've had some good down to earth Wildlife Experts and Herpetologists, but they're not high profile on television. They write books and articles that you can see on the net.
Not everybody sees it as an economic opportunity. Some have the personality to do just that - like Steve. *shivers* Imagine if Hoser had a personality *shiver again*
As long as he's spending all that hard earned cash wisely on conservation, he's okay.

Harry Butler has become an apoligist for large mining companies.
The reason you dont hear from him is because no one bothers to listen to him anymore.

I disagree Peter. From what I've heard through the grapevine, and what I've seen (doco on the ABC a couple of months back), he's doing some good work. :p

Better to have him there instructing the mining companies on minimising impact and habitat restoration, than letting them just go and destroy the habitat willy-nilly and then move on. 8)

But that, of course, is just my opinion.
