Hi guys,
have yet another question. When i got my lil stimson hatchling yesterday, she was quite active and they said she is hungry and will need a feed. They said she has been eating well and that when i get her home feed her. I thawd a velvet for her (as apparently she was on a fuzzy - is that the adult size?) mouse as recommeneded and wiggled it in front of her. She latched on etc but then went off it. I threw it out this morning.
Could it just be becasue she had such a big day yesterday? New home, new mum etc?
Also im a little confused about the different mice sizes. Pinkys are obvious, but velvets and fuzzys.....

let her settle in to her new home they can last a few months without food so i wouldnt worry too much til a month or 2

velvet is that velvety stage right before they get real fur, between pink and fuzz. fuzzie is when they get their white fur. and look all fuzzy' :)

If your stimmie has taken it and then let go I would say it was possibly still cold in the middle. When my snakes take there food item I put up a bit of a struggle to stimulate their feeding response

Learn to class your rodents by weight. It is easier and better for your record keeping.

e.g - 22-35g rat. 35-50g rat

make sure the mouse is warm
also sometimes they get distracted because of everything new going on around them
give him a week to settle in and when you feed cover the cage over so there is 'nothing to see'
I have had to do this with my jungle because as soon as she sees me she wants to come out of her encolsure to be with me...cheeky thing !! She takes the mouse and then starts looking around to see whats next !! So I feed her and then cover her click clack with a towel so she can just concentrate on her feeding. Solved the problem right away because she realised I wasnt there looking etc...and also dont talk to her either....i am quite sure my snake is hearing something because every time she hears my voice she looks up and reaches out to me.

Most importantly give the little darling a chance to settle....and write everything down it is so easy to forget...and it gives the vet or anyone else helping you a history of health or otherwise

are you serious? 'dont talk to her'... lol snakes dont have ears & can not hear a thing.. vibration yes, sound no... talk to your blue in the face if you want.. its not going to hear you...

hahaha i love it! my mates jungle does the same thing, he sover its tank with a towel at feeding time.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I did everything differently today and she ate, so im happy. Also had a great cuddle with her today. First time in her new home. She definitely prefers being with me over my husband (naturally.....) and definitely doesnt like going back in. Trys to crawl back up my arm. Im absolutely smitten.

I dont care what anyone says
I think she can hear me...well hear the vibrations of my voice.
She looks at me when I speak to her so I am going to talk to her as much as I like
(blahhhhhh lol) (pokes out tongue)

I am so glad she is settling Gypsy and I know what you mean about not going back into her enclosure....I have the same problem Elvira gets very upset when I put her away.

i am like you......I love her....she is just wonderful

Got some nice pics of her ?

Morning, I have another weird question. My lil girl grabbed her food this morning from where it's arms are. I know they are amazing creatures, but I'm looking at her going 'how are you going to get that down?' should I be worried?

no, backwards, forwards, sideways it dont matter, as long as it goes down...lol..

sorry did you feed her 2 days apart? but to answer your question my jungle eatsher mouse sideways, and breaks it in half. so they might take up to and hour or so to eat sometimes but they will finish eventually.

GypsyRose - She should not be fed so regularly - once per week is more than enough...

Yeah I know that. We took her off the velvets as she stopped eating them. We have fed her 2 pinkys this week while she settles in. We will put her back on velvets soon.
