I've noticed that with my smallest Black Headed Monitor that some strange behaviour may be occurring. It's a little hard to be sure as he's very shy and I can only observe from a distance, but after defecating he will rub his vent on the substrate and furnishings. Sometimes there will be no defecation, and instead he just lifts his tail and sometimes waves it about. Last night I had a glimpse of something pink and that's when I thought that there might be a problem. Is he perhaps experiencing some sort of irritation or infection? Impaction? Or maybe just exposing his manly bits (if he is a male)? He appears to be eating fine and he's very active. My other two monitors don't appear to be doing this behaviour. They will instead lift their tails and do a kind of projectile poo.
Any ideas? Or has anyone else experienced this kind of behaviour? The last thing I want to do is to take him out and inspect him as I'm trying to allow him to settle in minimize stress as much as possible.
