Tall enclosure, heating and thermostats

Hi all.

I am.after some advice on placement. At present I have an 18 x 18 x 24 enclosure.
Currently, there is a heat mat adhered to the underside, critters comfort substrate over glass and hides. There temperature really only shows any warmth on the nearby vicinity to this heat source. Mat is hooked to a dimming thermostat. I also placed a sheet of plasterboard with pre drilled holes over the top as it was full mesh. How and where could I incorporate and overhead heat lamp to help with thermal gradient and should that existing lamp be hooked to the same thermostat as the heat mat, a separate one or on timer and where would i place probe. Currently it is resting on substrate near hide

I forgot to mention in my wisdom... its for a Darwin Carpet, roughly 9mth old

Hi,
You could use a radiant heatpanel to increase the temperature in the enclosure...

I would recomend getting a heat cord around 70watt instead , you can run it through a dimmer switch if you like. Good luck.

Cheers all. Opted for a longer enclosure as opposed to taller and ditched the taller one. Have got all the temps right now with gradient and double checking with heat gun. she is a lot more active and seems to like this setup a lot better.

Now you just have to deal with the dilemma everyone faces when upgrading an enclosure. What to put in the old one.

I have a glass tall enclosure I’m ditching it tomorrow for a wider reptile one your better off although the tall exo terra suited my hatchling he loved to explore when he was in the tall exo terra shown in the photo but that only lasts 12 months before my childrens hatchling grew and now needs more ground space to enjoy exploring .
