she could have toughned glass secured properly on the front and have an access door on the side

That would work although you wouldn't need toughened glass , 5mm laminate will be cheaper and actually safer in a way as the laminate holds in together it tends to crack and hold together where as toughened will go into lots of tiny pieces

I'm not sure on the material just yet, I'm looking around to see what I like best/what is better cost wise. Though I did see some 2400x1200 MDF at 16mm for $31. I thought that was pretty good. 18mm was $33.

Attached is the plan I have for my Jungle's enclosure. You're on the same track as me. I will be replacing my ceramic globe with a heat panel for safety, efficiency and the fact that there will be 2 warm/hot areas for him.

Looking at converting a wardrobe for this one (about 1 metre wide x 600 deep and 1.8 high :) Will knock the back paneling out of the doors and replace with glass. Although not as stunning as full glass, it will look smart, be safe - and will reduce heat escaping.

Good luck with your enclosure :)

Forgetting about the thickness of the blade you use to cut it , so if it's 1200 wide and you try to get 2 600 wide pieces one or both will end up under 600 because the blade effectively turns what it cuts through to dust , although it's only a few mm those few mm will result in a cage that is un square and looks wonky from some angles

ok make it 595 deep. anything over you wont get 2 sides out of one sheet.

[h=1][/h]Shneke your vivarium proportions are almost identical to mine! *high five*. I challenge you to a vivarium-off! Actually no, I'll lose.
I'll ask when I get the wood cut how big the blade is and take that into account. I was thinking of using MDF for the bottom and back, and using pine for the sides and top to give it a bit of character. Unless I can find some melamine that comes in a darker colour that white or beige.

try a cabinet maker for black melamine

This is what I picked up for $50 today. 155H x 100W x 57D (Total of about 715 internal Litres when I take out the edges) so this will be Moose's new lifetime home!

Going to strip and re-stain it on the outside and considering painting it matte black and sealing it on the inside (still thinking about that one) and will use the shelves as basking zones and have large cut outs (smooth and stained and painted to match) to make the whole thing a multi-levelled enclosure (the holes will be made 2/3 the size of the shelves - so nice and big)

Have you considered looking for something like this? Might save $$ and a load of your time (and all I need to do is figure out if I want hinged doors or if I want to try sliders (I think I'm going to go with hinged framed doors as i don't want to loose vision from the top section due to rails)
