i have a 20 year old carpet python & in the last 6 months his/her droppings have become almost like water is this dew to old age?also just before a shed he/she goes almost black is that also a sign of old age?

There are a heap of pathogens that could cause the dysentry, sort of like a bacterial parasite.
get it to the vet for a check up, might have to take a sample of the stool, there should be a medical fix. Most snakes will darken up when they go into a shed cycle, wouldn't worry to much about that, but the other is a legit health concern.

Yep, if the loose stool is consistent for months, it would be a good idea to take a fresh stool sample to a vet for a microscopic check - there are some protozoans and bacteria which cause these symptoms, and you'll need to have it identified to get the correct treatment - an antiprotozoan such as Flagyl or an antibiotic may be needed. Usually treatment is very effective.
