On the weekend my little bredli got into his heat lamp cover and couldnt get out again.. he cooked overnight

we spent alot of time getting a bookcase style bank ready for little ones, making it escape proof, doing the heating and lighting ..everything.. we didnt want to use click clacks if at all avoidable..

We got a little bredli..Beautiful snake... we called him Bradley :D
Bradley was hard to get to eat, we had just got him eating regulary recently.
He escaped and we found him 3 days later. (Escape proof took on a whole different meaning)

We re-looked at everything and decided to change the heat lamp covers as the ones we used had too big holes.. so we purchased some good ones and changed them over...

It would have been easier for him to get out than to get into the heat lamp cover, we truly believed it to be secure but he was always curious and got into anything he could fit himself into, we are still unsure where he got in from....

All my little snakes are now in click clacks :(

I don't know how many times i've heard that exact story happening, get told to use light covers when they first buy a snake and this happens. Alot of people feel the need to buy a big cage for a hatchling snake aswell which means it's going to be heated with lights, just another reason to keep hatchlings in tubs.

BTW i'm not having a go at you zard, i'm sorry to hear of your loss.

Sorry for your loss zard i know how it feels...

I keep saying it and will again, you should have cages around your globes and there are different sized mesh globe covers that are meant for hatchlings...also never undestimate how much a snake can flatten out or squeeze into or out of the tighest of gaps!!!

Chalk it up to a learning experience zard and i agree with duga , keep hatchlings or juveniles in click clacks or plastic tubs from the $2 shop down the road and use heat tape or mat.

i purchased click clacks and a heat mat straight away. noe my beauties are in ugly plastic containers :(

we were told by the place we purchased these particular covers from they were safe for hatchlings:( nothing is safe... the enclosures are only small we just thought it wouldnt happen to us i suppose....

lesson learnt..

:( Really sorry to hear that Zard...Just the other day I was thinking of putting up a post reminding how hatchlings can get into the light covers and suggesting to 'newbies' about placing a pantyhose 'sock' over it.

Damn I should have gone with my instincts!!

Better than them being dead.

Sorry to hear about your little bredli.

Yeah sorry to hear Zard :( :( :(

now my beauties are in ugly plastic containers

Better to be safe then sorry (plus its only for a little while until they get bigger)

yeah sorry to here that zard..

some plastic containers aren't that bad get one from a fish shop they look a little nicer at least.

Good luck with the remaining collection hope this never happens again to ya..

also sorry to hear, know how it feels to lose a snakey, sorry again bout the loss of ur lil bredli :(

Sure is a bummer!

I have some of the older style light covers from the Herp Shop. I have found that you can pull a stocking over them which effectively protects them from little snakes getting in.

I lost a little stimsoni once when it lodged itself in the gap above the glass in sliding glass doors. The poor little bugger got in but could not get out... and I could not get him out in time :-(. It sure is hard to cover all the bases... but you do get better at it with experience.

i've been really assie with the housin' and health of my bredl. sorry to hear of ya loss. i've made me double check everything. keep ya chin up
