This follows on from another thread I made, but I'm starting a new one because the topic is no longer "bursts of activity". Last night while handling my adult MD, I noticed a bit of cream coloured, dry excrement stuck to her bum. I gently tried to pull it off, but she flinched so I left it. This morning I found the same excrement in her substrate, but it is now yellowish in colour. I'm worried that this means it's not poo but pus or a sign that something is wrong. She has refused her last two feeds but has been drinking a fair bit. Can anyone shed some light? Vet is only open for emergencies today so I might take her in tomorrow.

Sorry, photo is a bit gross!

looks to be some retained shed from its cloaca

looks like sperm plugs to me.
Wow, had never heard of sperm plugs before and after a bit of Googling it definitely looks a lot like the other photos. It would appear that Millicent is actually a "he"! Thanks!

dont jump to conclusions until you get it probed, females have pouches albeit smaller then males as well. and i can see soem clear outlines of scales in that sample, it may just be shed from around the cloaca and the hemiclitori, its certainly the right time of year to get sperm plugs from an MD though

as said dont be certain but it does look like it , ive had similar off one of my coastal when i caught him shedding once , this is what it will roughly look like this on a shed if its a male

It all points to to "her" being male. Cream when moist, translucent yellow dry, elongated shape and the size are indicative of sperm plugs. Not unusual for males to go off their tucker at this time of year - they have other things to do.

Thanks for the help everyone! The vet (Steve Cutter at the Ark Animal hospital) confirmed that 'she' is in fact a 'he', and a "well endowed" one, at that! I'm certainly surprised, but also glad that nothing is wrong. I've been taking him out for walks to air his frustration, as per vet recommendations, and he's already calmed down a little. The vet also said not to worry about his appetite as he is a healthy 4kg and could last a while without food until he settles down. Unfortunately I don't think breeding him is an option as MDs aren't common here and the vet reckons the breeding season is pretty much over so females won't be ready. I'm thinking he's just confused due to being outside his native climate.
