Hi guys,
I'm having trouble with my lighting.
I have been having my heating lamp on all day this winter, since
my house is extremely cold, and I have had three bulbs blow on
me in the last two months.
can anyone tell me why?
It's getting really frustrating and expensive.

We have had better luck with heat lamp bulbs since we stopped handling them with bare hands as we were screwing them in.
Use a cloth over your hands.
It has (I believe) something to do with the oils in your skin.
It still happens sometimes, but not with as much frequency.

I was told the same thing i've had better luck with bulbs ever since.

Yes, i have herd that before.
Will give it a go.
Thanks shellfisch

Did you wire them yourself?
We seem to only have one type of battern over here, well two but I find those difficult to work with.
I have had some similar issues and although I cant say for sure these are the only reasons I can offer:
1: May have pushed wire through to much so that it shorts through the globe.
2. I was having problems with a cage that did not have chord access built in and although I grooved wood to allow chord to go under cage it still heated the cord enough to cause issues.
I hate these things, gets me very parinoid. Yet other enclosures have never given me any grief.

There are three types of themo, on/off (on till temp is ok then light is turned off until temps drop)
Dimming - like the dimmer switch for house lights, so lamp never really is turned compleatly off but heat increased or decreaed by altering power supply to globe.
Pulsating - These are often for ceramics and heat chords that heat up and contiue to do so after power is removed. On this priciple the themo provides a bit of power, cuts it and measures temps and then provides some more as required, thus it pulses.

Hope I have got all this right.

Nar, it is all the original wires that came with the set up.
exo-terra and Microclimate.
wouldn't trust myself to do the my own wiring!!!

We had the same problem a couple of years ago. We changed over to the ceramic heat emitters, which are initially more expensive but are meant to last 3yrs or something. Ours have been in just shy of 2yrs and they work great!

is it proportional thermo or on/off thermostat - on off thermostats go through bulbs like anything, imagen turning it on off on off on off on off to keep the temp right... if it's dimming/proportional it dims the lamp to give off less heat but doesn't turn it off...

the Microclimate Ministat 300 is a on/off thermostat .
is this for a beardie ? i use the bunnings style flood light globes[phillips brand] for my beardies , i use the 100watt ones . there great , just over $5 for a 2 pack and they last for ages. even with the on/off thermostats .

Zuesowns, it's a on/off.
And Zoojas yes it is for a beardie.
Ill have a look for that globe. Thats heaps cheeper than what i'm paying now!!
