good afternoon fellow herpers, the missus went out of the house for a while to return to there being a RSPCA sticker on the door to say we missed them, and to call this number to discuss.Initially we thought it was about the dog,(lol another long story for later). The RSPCA called my missus again today to say they would like to come out today because they have had a complaint about snakes being kept in an upstairs bedroom,my missus said yes feel free come anytime they said they could come today, the missus says ok but make it after 3pm,rspca says no we will have to make another time maybe friday she said ok no worries. Now the snakes in question are a 9 month old bredli named RA, she is in a wooden enclosure that is 70cm x 45cm x40cm,now i think she is about 80cm long. The second snake in question is a diamond python about 6 months old names zeus, he is in a click clack that is about 60cm x 40cm x 40cm, and zeus is about 40 - 50 cm long. They both have a heat mat, light for day night cycle a few hides a few branches and fresh water.I think we have a family member who is dirty on us and they have dobbed us in for some reason they were only at our house on saturday just gone, first question, why would the RSPCA be so quick to act?,secondly i dont have anything to worry about do i ? if you got this far thankyou and sorry for my bad grammar...any advice is appreciated, cheers Smileysnake.....:D

Gee theres some do-goodin weirdos out there! Cage sizes sound fine to me, maybe they exaggerated to the RSPCA to get them to act. With family like that who needs enemies!

I would not worry, I have had the RSPCA called on me by a vindictive neighbour and they do act quickly. The officer that called asked a few questions about buy dogs and luckily the council had been there the day before about my dogs and I just told the RSPCA to call the council inspector about how well looked after my dogs were and she did so that was the last I heard from either of them. As long as you are doing the right thing you will be fine and even if you are trying to do the right thing but get it wrong they will do nothing but get you to fix things I have heard.

ok thankyou,am i able to tell them they cant inspect untill im there i am the license holder not my missus or just let them see and get it over and done with..thanks again guys....ha ha yeah keeping my enemies closer ha ha family....

I guess that particilar family member is no longer welcome at your place .

Aren't families great.....

Sadly the shelters gets alot of bogus calls that they have to try and follow up, the callers dont realise that they are taking up valuable time and animals that are in real need of help suffer :(

If it's anything like when they are called out for dogs, long as they have appropriate housing and water you should be fine.

I once had someone tell them my dog had no shelter or water in the middle of summer.. They came out, showed them to the backyard, showed them the large kennel, trees with shade, large storage container full of water right below the tap.. They said "Sorry to bother you" and left.

this is WHY we have snakes  most of my wife's family will not come to our house because we have snakes and lizards .

Oh and the fact that I MADE their daughter (50 something years old , now ) a nudist 30 years ago :shock:

I would tell them to contact parks and wildlife with their issues as they are the ones that police the licensing and regs. not the RSPCA

RSPCA know nothing about reptiles, they have no right to complain about anything to do with your reptiles unless they are trained and experienced in dealing with reptiles. also code of practice is not enforcable till march for nsw so they can't complain about enclosure sizes.

i have rung the rspca about someone poaching native reps and selling them, using someone elses licence details, live feeding native reps to his corn snake and boa, abusing reptiles, paying kids to poach for him ect the list goes on and the RSPCA and DECC have done nothing. DECC have said he refuses them entry and they are waiting for the police to get a warrent and escort them in that was 6 months ago. and i was told by them they have over 200 complaints about this guy and even video/ voice recorded evidence.

years ago a angry neighbour called the local council to complain that someone was in my yard bashing my 3 dogs, i was shocked and let them view my dogs, not a scratch or mark on them, all dogs had their own kennels with beds, and 2 bowls per dog. he apologies and left quickly.

don't stress let them in, see what they have to say have your licence and log book ready.

The only way they can come in is with a warrant. If you let them in yourself that's up to you. So it obviously depends if they are in good condition or not. Who knows where the snakes are??? Maybe listen to particulars of the complaint if you don't know and sort them out later, that person that is.
The only problem I can see from what you've said is that if a rspca moron that's only read books and no knowledge of much, might go on about the size of the container to snake size in saying the tank is to small, 80cm snake in a 70cm enclosure. Yep, seeing as they are so active and like going for long runs in the parks just so active... Morons. From what I've read on here, a lot of small snakes dont like to bigga tanks coz they freak out.
Good luck with them, you should be fine

ok guys thanks heaps sounds like i will be fine.and yeah i didnt think rspca could really do anything.the lady that is handling our case sounds like she just wants to get it over and done with so i will let you all know how it goes on friday.cheers everyone.

if they do say anything about enclosure sizes tell them to read the code of practice which ain't even enforcable till march.

as soon as they read the measurments and m2 ect they will be so confused they wont bother. plus i would like to see them measure your snake lol.

ok well the rspca have just left they said everything is fine all snakes and lizards look fine and healthy, didnt even need to cite my license, and told me that the person who reported me said that i had cobra's and all other types of exotic snakes in little tubs all over the house...lmao...lmao lol lol...wow.....

Well at least you had enough time to put the exotics in the cupboard before they got there ;)

lol, the lengths some people will go to try and get others in trouble or just stress other people out. karma will get them.

I am surprised the RSPCA fielded that enquiry. I would have thought they would handball that to the Federal Police and have a little more expertise if the were investigating Cobras.
