why are people posting topics that have absolutely nothing to do with aussie reptiles, ie, The war against rape, the kethurst tiger caught on tape, The london terrorist attacks etc, etc. These have nothing to do with reptiles if you want to winge about life go to some other site dont ruin this one for other people who log on to look at reptile related topics, go and have a cry on the "Oprah Winfrey web site" not here.

There is a chit chat forum on here for chit chat. These are usually posts about subjects alot of us are interested in. There are still plenty of reptile related threads. Haveing off topic threads isn't stopping anyone from posting reptile realted questions. If you dont like them then dont read them.

But you're contributing to the non-reptile threads you're complaining about by adding your own "chit chat" thread here. I personally think that a thread about a terrorist attack in London is more worthy of being posted than a thread bitching about people posting other threads :? . But anyway, there's usually not as much reptile related talk when everyone's cooling for winter cos everything's sleeping

The Chit Chat topic is for people to talk about "non reptile" related topics. If you want this to stop, then you will have to remove the Chit Chat Topic.

I too agree sometimes that I log on and half of the posts are about non reptile related crap I don't wish to talk about, but everyone is different and if the option is there for people to talk about this stuff, then so be it. Just ignore it IMO

I don't see the point to posting threads that aren't reptile related, it does offend some people and to say just don't read it isn't the point, the titles of threads like the war against rape offends some people.
Why do we need to discuss it, do it in PMs or in chat.

Or go elsewhere and talk about it. Last time i checked this site was called aussie pythons and snakes.

People can say if you don't like them, don't read them, but you just don't know what the thread is about just from the title. The ones that bother me are ones such as ' the war against rape', etc. YOu go there thinking there's a website or petition thingy, and then it's about what it was about, and you read things you just don't need to read.

People forget that seeing and reading these sort of stories upsets people that have been victims themselves, and it really has no place on a family reptile site. No one's ignoring the fact that terrible things happen, just posting on a reptile site isn't appropriate imo. You read and hear about them everyday on TV and in the newspaper, its just hard when it's everywhere.

Slackra made a good point in his post on the said thread, something like "I haven't been a victim or someone in my family, so i don't have an opinion on such things". A good way to be.

The fact is this site brings together people who have a common interest in reptiles. Obviously there are social internet friendships made as a group and therefore there are bound to be non reptile threads happening. I think this is just one of the many elements that help make this site so popular.

Most of the threads in there are life related topics, if you cant handle the REALITY of life, go and hide under a bloody rock, cause in all truths, the world is only getting worse and i reckon the threads are only gonna get more realistic.

Life is often hard, we cant all be wrapped in cotton wool, the sooner we all realise that the sooner we can maturely accept and deal with the dramas that come with it.

Because people do have interest beyond reptile keeping, it's a big world Matty, full of big issues and people like to exchange thoughts and ideas.
Thats why the forum is called chitchat.
There is only so much you can say on any given herp topic, then it gets repetetive. We do have a chat room where folk discuss various herp related stuff. (occasionally )
You'll find that people on any site do talk about other things.
If your intrested in Pins theres a great site called ....www.Pins.com. no other topics allowed, no nails, no tacks, no staples or screws, its boring as hell, but you might like it! Apologies to TP

This is funny coming from a rich kid who goes clubbing every weekend and gets to drive daddy's porche :roll: . I'm not having a personal go at your life TS, but it's maybe easy for you to read the threads and not find it upsetting because you haven't gone through some of the things that have been discussed, and some of the detail that it has been discussed in is not necessary.
It's hard enough when news reporters feel the need to go into detail with paedophilia, sexual assults etc, and it's in your face so much these disturbing things that happen. They have stupid shows about certain crimes like Law and Order SVU which I can't see why anyone who's not a sicko would watch. Shows like that just give people ideas imo, how could anyone find that 'entertainment'. :evil:

People need to think of victims of these crimes, and think that maybe such detail is not necessary and difficult for some people to hear.

I'm not saying I don't like chit chat threads, it's ones that go into the kind of detail that the rape thread did, it's not not necessary and not needed on this site.

Yes its sick n horrible, thats reality, I was putting forward a common example, not trying to entertain sickos with what happened to the child.
Too many folk have a "if its bad I dont want to know or hear about it" attitude, thats Imo, the reason society continues to allow our leaders/gov/lawmakers to BS around! High time we all started to demand real answers n solutions to real issues, no matter how taboo. Sweeping it under the carpet and not wanting to hear the nasty stuff, dosent lead to positive action, but instead to lesser issues getting the spotlight while whats really important to us as society gets ignored. More votes for pollies who promise less tax than one who promises to get real about real crime.
I had no intention of upsetting any fainting violets with details of the death of a lil girl who couldve been my own, but I wont pretend for minute that anything else, including reptiles talk, is of more value than the hard horrible issues . I do agree the site is about reptiles but there is room for non herp issues that we want to discuss.

I havent always had my rich daddy around. I actually grew up with my Mum, brother and sister in a a housing commission estate here in sydney. We went through hard times harder than alot of people. But, all of us (brother sister and me) decided we werent going to be put down by the lack of material things we had as kids, we worked hard and got to where we are today. And we even helped out mum along the way. I dont go clubbing every weekend, i go to my local cause i get free booze there. I rarely have enough dollars myself to by the beer i drink. Im just luck enough to have really really good mates.

Ive been through a **** load in my life which i prefer not to bring up cause i just dont know some of the people reading it personally well enough. But to say i dont understand what life throws at people is the understatement of the century. I get lucky once or twice a year cause my father thinks all the years of neglect is repaid with big gifts. I had my brother and uncle to do the camping and father son things with as a kid so i never did miss him not being there, but im not gonna reject his generosity if he feels its his way of "being there" for me now.

For most that know me personally, they'll tell you that porsches and jets arent my everyday lifestyle at all.

I would be careful saying that to anyonw on the site, most people on this site we have to take on the merits from which we see in their posts, not by making assumptions just because someone has a rich father or whatever. Assumptions are always dangerous. How would you have a clue what 99% of the people on the site have been through?

Yep i must admit every time i logon lately there's more doom and gloom chit chat which outnumber reptile related topics.Personally i watch as little tv as possible othe than documentires etc and when i do catch the news it's all doom and gloom and deaths world wide with wars and all the rest of the crap and then there' the flip side where it's big news rescuing a bloody kitten stuck up a tree.

I come here mainly for reptile talk but for enjoyment as well but lately the topics of threads have gone a bit far and there' more chit chat than herp talk.I love threads such as the Kenthurst Panther and thoughts behind them.I have heard of many reports of these animals and i'm sure there's heaps more out there to be discovered and topics such as this are of real interest to me.The thought they are a primitive wild cats adapted to it's climate and surroundings here in Oz fascinates me.I also belive without a doubt there are still thylacines in non explored territory in Tasmania,nd i only found out not long ago thylacines were not just found in Tasmania but there are fossils of them from many parts of Australia and the dingo played the major part in eradicating them.

There' people out there with more problems in life etc and there will always be someone worse off so take what you've got and move forward and stop all the whining which is being viewed by open froum and for discussion on a reptile site and go to lifeline.com who wil surely provide assistance...i come here to escape negatiivity and doom and gloom which we are constantly exposed to and would like to think logging in to my favourite reptile site that there are more humerous and reptile related topics rather than whining doom and gloom chit chat outweighing herp topics!!!

Topics such as whinging about day to day life on an open forum i guess can be an outlet for people but i'd prefer not to read it which i know i don't have to but sometimes as i'm sure we all know we read the whole thread as they can become interesting or at the least entertaining!!!
