The VHS had a local carers group come in to sign up members to be called upon to look after reptiles during fires.

Trader and I signed up but nothing as yet seems to have come from it and that was over a year ago.

My bf signed up for that a while ago (probably at the same VHS meeting)and he has not heard anything either.
bumma you would think they would need as many people as they can get. :?

Bushfire herp carers.
the thing with bushfires is that contrary to popular belief there isnt as many animals to care for as you would think. Thats all native animals.

I'm do wildlife care aswell. Just lost a joey that we had for EIGHT MONTHS :( Harry was like a piece of the furniture and about to go through stage 7 (pre release). Sucks, but hey, thats part of the job.

i don't want to be a rescuer or a foster an animal, simply because i am 16, can't drive and have to do something called school. i was hoping that there would be some sortof wildlife shelter that i could volunteer at.

oh something interesting that happened, i was watching a show on animal planet aussie animal rescue, and they did half the episode on this guy in victoria. the same guy who was the main talker/teacher at this thing i went to at the melb zoo, same sunglasses too!

So you need to find out who holds a license in your area and contact them.

are you able to sign up just to care for certain animals?

Surely are... well in my area you are anyway...
I guess it depends on how much time you have and the space and the equipment etc... as to what kind of animals you can care for to start with...
well its good to know there are so many caring people out there
Take care. Have fun.
