Hi all,

I currently have my pygmy BDs on URS red desert sand but I find that it makes my dragons underside turn a orange/red and that red dust gets all over my enclosure.
I am getting new enclosures made up and what to try something different to the red sand. I was thinking of getting play sand and what to know what experiences other people have had.

My other options are astroturf or ceramic tiles. What else do you recommend?

Thanks,
Andy

Sand sold in childrens sandboxes is a good idea. Be sure to wash, rinse and air dry the sand before using

I use sandpit sand for all my dragons and a few of my gex. Its easy to clean and cheep.

I use it for all my lizards. Cheap, easy to get at Bunnings, plus doesnt stain the herps.

It costs $8 a 20kg bag at Bunnings, I'm not sure on prices of Landscaping places.

After washing it & drying it out throw it in the oven for a bit.
Will kill any nasties that happened to hitch a ride home with you.

I used Sydney sand sold through Bunnings. Very good stuff but it doesn't hold burrows or other diggings that well.

Go Slate tiles mate.

Looks great, easy to clean, can't hold nasty mites etc, wears down your lizards nails naturaly, insects can't burrow in there, no worry about impaction.

Thats my opinion though. :)

Thanks mate. The reason I want to stay with sand is so that mthe dragons can still dig and my female can lay eggs if she has any.
