okay i posted a thread last week on my bhp thats not feeding and im hoping its just cuz hes still setteling in to his new home

but now im wondering what people have used to tempt there non feeding hatchos into feeding.

so im looking at things like
differant food sources
scenting techniques
anything else people have used to spark off the all important feeding response

pics if possible

any and all replies will be greatly appreciated.

thanks all

If he was already eating rats or mice try not to use a different foodsource or any scenting.

about 3 months it was only said he was wether it was true or not is still in question i have a feeling it wasnt.

i've seen hatchling bhp's go long then 3mths with-out feeding, the best thing i can think of is for a start dont handle him an just try feed him every week or 2 at night an check on him in the morning, so 1 week try him with a rat, if its not gone by the morning, take the rat an everythink out of his cage an replace it with new newspaper ( or whatever you use for bedding ) so the smell is gone from the cage totally, 2nd week use a mouse an the do same .

I posted a thread similar to this and someone suggested slitting the throat of the pinkie/mouse/rat..

Worked like a charm, I put him into a small click-clack with the pinkie and locked him in... this way he wasnt distracted by anything else and he could smell it so he just ate it.

take him out of his enclosure to feed him and put him in a small box. Leave him alone! you can try throating or braining and all that! if all else fails a live one usally gets the feeding started! and if that doesnt work you might have to force feed!

what if in 2 weeks he doesnt take a live mouse should i try fish or frogs or small lizards that are off licence (i know shock horror but he would eat them in the wild any way) and if he takes either i geuss i can just scent the animals after the first feed

NO. The last thing you want is getting him addicted to these and then he wont learn to accept rats and mice. Just stick with rodents.

Not to mention thats illegal.

i know but i refuse to have a snake die in my care of anything i can prevent but if theres a chance he might only accept herps then i wont not worth it in my book.

okay so if in 2 weeks he hasnt taken frozen ill go fresh kill then live failing that force feeding.

whats the next step after force feeding i dont imagine you can do that forever.

took his first feed solo about 2 hours ago i had to encourage him at first but after a while i think he just got frustraited with this pink thing being shoved in his face and the took it after that he took the second about an hour ago no problems. thanks for the help guys.
