some of you might remember my incident with the 2 (coastal carpets) hatchlings with holes in their belly.
well ironically they are doing the best atm. they shed within first couple weeks and had one feeding a week after!!! :D

but i am curious to the time frames that hatchlings first shed... and if and/or when i should be concerned when the others shed.... the others have been dark for a while but still no shed.

:(

just do all the normal things you do in a shed i.e increase humidity a tiny bit and make sure there is some nive rough surface for them to rub on. some snakes take longer than others. if they still havent shed in like two weeks take em to the vet

you shouldn't really have concerns as I find some hatchies will shed in 14 days after hatching and others it might be a few more weeks. you need to regularly spray the hatcie tub paper towel substrate so that the humidity is higher in the first few weeks as they can dehydrate from the heat especially when not feeding. I usually start offering food from about 14 days old whether they have shed or not. Even when they have not had the first shed since hatching.. they may start feeding anyway and after a feed or two are closer to that first shed than they would have been if they had'nt started feeding.

i have been keeping the humidity right up. i have to change the newspaper/paper toweling every few days as they seem to knock all the water everywhere and it gets too damp. they each have a rock to rub on.

they hatched in late jan :(

i have tried feeding a couple of times over past 3-4 weeks just in case, but no takers.

i have up'd the temp slightly today to see if thta stimulates them...

what temps do you have in the click clack tub?

I sit my hatchie tubs (about a third to half of the tub) on microclimate heat mats that are hooked into and controlled by a microclimate thermostat at about 30 degrees. theres a hide in this hot end and water at the cold end.

I find that the best times for feeding are at night when most of the hatchies are awake and moving around. If you feed at other times and have to wake the hatchie up by whacking it in the head with a pinkie  a lot of them can be reluctant to feed at this time. Some will of course but when they are awake and are actually moving around the tub at night is the ideal time to feed.

All Makes Sense Colin....

And that pretty Much what I have setup as well... Though My rack has routed heat cords... A couple of rows , covering about a third of tub.... Mine is set a lil high though at 32 deg.... With a Hide theat they can go in, or on top of..

And yes water down the cool end.... And I know humidy is pretty good...Because depending on the day..Sometimes a small amount of condensation builds up on the tub side...

hatchies

i had one hatchy that retaned its shed, after 7 weeks it still hadnt shed, gave it a swim in warm water (the sink) two nite's in a row, third nite it shed no prob's.....

thanks.. will see how it goes then!!!

there were at around 30 on the warm end.. trying for up to 31 max now (wont go higher than that. maybe all the difference i need.

if nothing, will try giving them a swim toO!! :D

thanks again
