Does anybody know if the little file snake (Acrochordus Granulatus) is available in the trade, can't seem to find any upon a few web searches. I would love to add a couple to my collection, but may have to settle for an arafura.

I am not that versed in what I assume are Latin names for snakes and lizards and after reading replies to some posts over the last few years I felt it would be a good question. Why do some people tend to use Latin names when replying to posts that have been using common names, eg: rattling off 8...

Salazar is nearly 5 years old and has progressively gotten wimpier when it comes to his food. I know snakes tend to become more placid with as they get older, but I think it's getting a bit silly...
This snake is very rarely mentioned, and I know very little about them. Are they colubrids? Venomous? Are they ever kept as pets? All I know is they live in water :? just thought about it now!
Here in WA there are several snakes we're not allowed to have....Murray Darlings and Childrens just to name two. Are there any snakes in other states you aren't allowed to have ???? Non ven ones I mean.
lost my file snake today... took a swan dive out of the tank and never recovered... was swimming (floating) upside down and then spiralling kept opening and closing its mouth then just sinking then swimming on its back then nothing.... very unhappy....
I have a friend who is interested in keeping a file snake.. ive been trying to gather some info for him but am not having much luck, does anyone know anything about the species? and what the licencing requirements are for SA to keep one??

I am looking at getting a file snake, and have done some research. I read that the tank should be well ventilated (eg mesh/open lid). Just wondering if it is ok to use an air pump (as in fish tanks), or does this create too much water movement?

I'm looking into getting a pair of Arafura File Snakes.
When i first saw one, i thought it was hideous, but for some reason or other they have grown on me.
What is everyone else's opinions on these fascinating snakes?
