Hi guys,

I have an almost 4 year old atherton and she has always been very healthy, growing at a great rate (she is 1.2kg at the moment) and is a great feeder. She is in an enclosure at the moment with temp ranges from 28 degrees to 32 degrees at the hottest point and has a large hide, large log in the middle of the tank and shade under the log if need be.

For the last month or so I have noticed that she is not excreting like she used to... she is excreting urate in large dry lumps which seems to be normal for her, but she has not excreted any faeces recently. I read that giving her a warm bath and rubbing her stomach gently may help so I am going to try that soon, but does anyone have any other suggestions? I did notice that the second last time she excreted, there were little brown dots the size of sand all over the urate, has anyone heard of this before? I have tried searching on here and googling online but have had alot of problems finding a proper answer

Thank you in advance for any help
Mel :)

Im no expert, but was sure that both come out at the same time. And I also thought that if they used the majority of their food the end result could be small. So is there a possibility that she's using up all the food source and maybe need an increase in food size?

Anyone else with more experience might be able to help more.

I get what you are saying but there is no way that she could go a size bigger (I know, they can eat more than you think, but definitely no way she could go bigger)

What size food is it currently eating, I'd say it is using up nearly all of it leaving little to excrete.

She is eating large rats that are about 15cm long body wise I think (rough estimate) She has only just gone up a size on the last 2 feeds and before that she was excreting normally. Its only with the last 2 feeds this has been happening. Sometimes it takes her 2 weeks to excrete anything at all as well

my 4 year old bredli hangs onto the brown nuggets for a meal or 2 before he sheds, always passes urates though then drops a massive brown one within 10 mins of finishing his shed.

I am no expert but our MD quite often just excretes the white urate on its own and then usually a couple of days later it will excrete the normal white and brown poo.
