Hi just wondering if it is normal for a 7 month old bearded dragon to stop eating. He doesn't eat any crickets and rarely eats fruit and veggies. I have tried him on woodies but just doesn't seem interested in chasing them. he will eat a couple of worms but that about it. I hold food up to him and he still doesn't seem interested. It didn't worry me at first cos I figured he would eat when he gets hungry but its been a couple of weeks now and still doesn't eat much. He is getting quite skinny now as well.

G'day

Now that it's winter the temps have dropped so some Reptiles naturally decide to switch off or slow down feeding. I've got pythons some are still feeding, some aren't. All on same themostat and temps.

A friend had two beardies in the same tank and the first winter one of them kept feeding and the other stopped and buried itself in the substrate. At the end of winter it emerged again and was half the size of the other that had kept eating but caught up again over the summer.

As long as your temps and humidity are good and it's healthy then may not be anything to worry about. You could try turning up the heat or if your worried about it's health then get it checked out.

Hope this helps...

Thanks. They have a red heat light but it turns off at night because they have been moving away from it to find darkness. Should I turn it back on. He hasn't barried himself or anything just not interested in food

use a ceramic heater, i was told and recall reading somewhere beardies can not see red/blue coloured lights but if it reflects of of it items can give off different colour who knows lol best bet ceramic heater

its that time of the year night time temps are dropping they will slow down, if your concerned about the weight see a vet if not there appetite will pick up when the temps do

Hey there :)

My Beardie is the same age and she always moves to her cool end overnight and has done since i got her, as far as i know they can't see the red light, making them good heaters for night use. I use a ceramic heater for mine but turn it off at night and only leave the Heatmat on some nights (the colder nights) she sleeps curled up on that like a cat. Also a few weeks back mine went of eating too and buried herself, but now she's back to her old gluttonous self :)

Hope i helped.

His got the heat lamp which is at 35 degrees during the day. Also when its a nice day they get about an hour or so in the garden

Basking temp is ok. I don't heat any of mine at night except juveniles under 6 months. He may well have just slowed down due to the drop in temps.
