Insects are heavily under rated as food in western countries.
Grasshoppers are good, as are crickets, mealworms... actually most are great. Woodies are terrible! If you're patient enough to fillet woodies, they're very good, although it's a lot of work and if you eat their digestive tracts you get the foul tasting stuff which is supposed to be a predator deterrent. It doesn't seem to work on animals too well, but sure works on me!
If anyone is interested in organising a get together for eating weird stuff, I'd be well and truly up for it, or I'll rise to the challenge of any eating contest, be it volume, time to eat a set volume, who can eat the hottest chilli, who will eat the grossest/weirdest etc Anyone up for it? I'm not sure how well I'd go, but it would be a heap of fun
Oh, by the way, the esters I made in Chemistry smelled like artificial apple flavour. I'd have tried some except that I'd probably have died or become seriously ill. Interesting that everyone seems to have made different flavours!
