Hi all, one of my BHP's shed yesterday, however Ive noticed that the very first scale on the tip of his nose hasnt come off.

Should I try and get it off myself or just wait for the next shed?

Cheers

Different views on this subject, I have always erred on the side of caution regarding removing retained sheds.

Firstly, if it won't come away with a little pressure don't force it.

Secondly, it largely depends on where the retained shed is as to to level of importance I place on removing it. One of my BHPs retained some shed along his back that wouldn't come away easily, so I left it alone, put his water bowl under his heat lamp to increase humidity and it eventually cam away itself.

Lastly, you can try soaking him in warm water or soaking a towel in warm water, put that and your snake in a snake bag and let him move around in there and that may bring the retained shed away.

Good Luck

Good advice there. If it were me from here I would soak an inside out pillow case in warm water, wring it out, then place snake inside and tie it at the top. The snake should rub the shed off its nose by itself if left inside for 10 minutes or so. I would also eer on the side of cuation next time it is coming up to shed and raise the humidity level in the enclosure or offer a container of spagnum moss. Hope this helps.

Thanks,

I'll try the pillow case thing and see how we go.
I did end up putting their water bowls at the warmer end, the female shed no worries, and so did the male, except for that very small scale on the nosetip.

There both so easilly handled that I can just about rub the tip of their nose with my fingers, but they pull away at the last minut so to speak.

So its off into a wet bag we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers
