Black & Gold Jungle Python Queries.........

Hi All,

This is our first snake, so we're very new to this. Last Friday we brought home a black and gold jungle python hatchling. He has quite a good temperament in regards to being 'snappy', but still of course is a bit jumpy and scared. He was really good to handle in the shop, and was eating perfectly.

Now at home, he handles very well once he's out of his cage, but getting him out is a problem. He's very jittery and nervous, and ends up running away and curling himself around something. He fed perfectly on Sunday, and we haven't got him out since.

Should we be leaving him in his cage a bit longer so as he can get used to it, or should we keep persisting to get him out to handle?? Also, what would be the best method to get him out??

Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi with hatchling pythons I personally don’t take them out unless I have to clean them so just leave him alone and only take him out when its cleaning time as taking him out lots will stress him.

i only take new snakes out twice a week, once to feed, once for a bit of sun. handling is minimal, i just let them cruise around a bit.

with the 2 bredli i have living together 1 is always in strike mode my the time i unravel the other one, so i just give it a few more mins till its not attached to anything and quickly stick my hand in and grab it before it goes back into strike mode.

remember that a baby will barely break the skin, u have nothing to be worried about, just dont pull back incase u hurt the babies teeth.
