i'm getting little white looking bugs very small every now and then in the enclosure are these mites? and any way to stop getting them?
also the pet store told me to have a day light on a timer is this necessary i have a 14 month old spotted python

Spotteds are nocturnal and prefer darker places like caves and stuff. U do not need to have a daylight for them just a heat light. If u want to give ur snake some differing lights open the blinds for a few hours during the day, and occasionally take it outside for some uv. Is your pet store specialising in herps or are they just general, cos maybe they arent fully aware of different snakes needs.

They still need the photoperiod ;)
Just use a normal fluro bulb or tube if you dont want a uv.
Either set it on a timer, or turn it on in the morning and off when the sun goes down yourself.

As far as the white bugs, i always thought mites were black but left a white 'powder' or 'specks' on the snakes.
Other than that i have no idea what they would be, it would make it easier for people to tell you if you could get a clear photo of them

If you have any logs or timber branches in the enclosure it could be whiteants, they are little & white:)

I was going to suggest this, but also, there is one particular company I use to get mealworms, crix, woodies from - didn't matter which it was but if I held them for long enough I would find millions upon millions of tiny white mites come out of them. When I had my petshop they were that bad they fully covered my counter which was a decent 5foot long counter. I even tried re-bedding the meal worms but I had no idea what to do about it. Whether the mights came out of the bran or substrate they use, don't know. I have always had collections of mealworms and crickets going, bought anywhere else - never saw this problem. So it beat me and never thought to ask the supplier, just presumed they would deny it anyway. Whatever they were, they didn't seem to harmful, just nuisense that there were so many of them and absolutely spread, covering eveything.

Snake Mites aren't hard to see. They are black and a bit like headlice - quite easy to see. And if you put your snake on plain white substrate overnight, next morning you would no doubt see them on the substrate.

thanks i had my branch out and found lots of white ant things in it dont think they where termites
