Does anybody here have any information as to why frilled lizards have canine like teeth, why they possibly evolved them, there purpose or why it's not seen in any other lizard species? I cant seem to find much info about it. (photo off google)

thanks.

Hi 5hane,

good question, I dont know the answer, however, have a few thought in additon:

My hatchlings dont have such teeth, maybe they will grow only with the older. Are available or preferred prey animals the reason? Are young animals specialized on small beetles or ants?
Are these teeth present in old males and females? Could it be for the better fix of the mating bite ore fights between males?
I would be grateful for answers and literature on the subject.

By the way, look at Leiolepis ssp. (google-images), the same teeth ;)
