Hi all, got a few ? that i would appreciate some help with. I have 2 spotted juvies that i will be moving from there click clacks soon.
1. I have a 4ft enclosure (melamine) i would like to divide in half, can I use any type of timber for the divider or can some be toxic?
2. What would be the best way to heat it? I currently have a infared 100w that was used for my coastal, is that fine to keep using up 1 end once it will be 2ft?
3. Is a dimming thermastat a better idea than just a normal one?
4. The set up is in my lounge room which has a wood fire going all winter, does this have affect on heating or does the thermastat sort that out?
Obviously 1 end is already set up and i will have to do the same for the other end so I just want to make sure im going the right way about it, if anyone has any other ideas or points they might want to point out that would be great also. Thanks for the help!

You can use the same timbers as what you can to build with. Some can be toxic, I'd just buy another small piece of melamine and cut to fit.

You'll need two heat sources now. The lamp should be fine, but you'll need one in each half, on separate thermos preferably.

Yes

It means your heater doesn't have to work as hard. Also need to be 'slightly' careful that there is still a heat gradient (Don't heat your room to 30º+ with the heater)

I think you'll find 100watt globe to big for 2 foot of enclosure. You are better of choosing the lowest wattage globe possible whilst still maintaining good temps. I had a 100 watt globe in a small enclosure once and even with the thermostat set at 25 the actual temps were reaching over 40 before the thermostat kicked in, also the quicker your temp is reached the more your thermostat has to switch on and off shortening it's life and the globes. And in the event of thermostat failure you'll have less chance of cooking your snake with a lower wattage globe

I have to agree with Steve, use the lowest wattage globe you possibly can that still maintains the correct temp.If you use a 100watt bulb in a 2 foot enclosure and you have a thermostat fail you will literally cook your snakes like he mentioned.I currently have a advanced hatchling in a 2 foot glass setup using a 7 watt heat mat and an 25 watt infra red basking light and that maintains a hot end temp of about 32,so 100 watt is way to much in my opinion.

awesome guys thanks for your help, I didnt even stop to think that if my thermastat failed I would of cooked my poor snakes. Thanks I will follow ur advice.
