might acutally be a zoomed in version of a whip snake?
 
haha my bad didnt see you had written whip snake costa... so ill go one step further and sayu maybe a black whip snake or carpentaria :p
 
Am I allowed to give hints or eliminate possibilities? It is none of the species that have been guessed at so far ;), but some good guesses!

We have a winner :D

The snake is Antairoserpens warro, found in the wet-tropics bioregion of north Queensland. I was surprised one day to have this one turn up on my front doorstep- on the doormat (!) at Toomulla Beach, north of Townsville. A truly beautiful animal.
