$450 is too high for a Diamond juvie. The average price is 300. I've seen them for lower but 300 is about the average. If you are happy paying that much, I guess it doesnt matter.

Aww mate, dont pay pet shop prices, take a look in the forsale forum. I will give you a Murray for half that

I agree. I bought my first snake (a diamond python) from a pet shop and only because it was the easiest way to convince my wife to let me spend so much on something she hated (cost me $500) as they had an interest free payment plan. Now she is cool with me buying them. I will never buy from a pet shop again.......

RE: Re: Handling first live snake tomorrow

He had a nervous brakedown and is in hospital and will never be the same again (if they let him back out )

Sorry for the delay. I have had several PMs from anglerose and a 10 minute phone call to her since I logged in.

I didn't chicken out this time. It was awsome! Nothing like I expected. The diamond was cool (but not cold) like touching a wooden door. It was silky smooth and almost floated over my hands and arms.

It kept going for my chest and face and I had to "step" it with my hands and arms outstretched.

I thought that I would feel the scales but I couldn't feel any of them.

I learnt how not to take it out of it's cage. It was sitting on a peace of mangrove looking towards the back of the cage. The owner tried to pick it up from behind and it flung around and tried to tag him.

I don't know if I will buy that snake but I will be buying a snake. I am currently waiting for the pet shop owner to get back to me with a price on an enclosure. Don't tell me to build my own because I don't have the tools or a workshop.

To all snake owner wannabes. Whatever you buy get a young one if you haven't handled a snake before.

Thanks for all your help. I look foward to my next handling session.

Cheers,
Wombat.

Hehe, guys Wombat is pretty excited, as you can tell, unfortunately i didnt know that horsham vic, was almost in bloody adelaide, so i dont think he will be visiting me any time soon, but he getting much closer to joing the club :)

Angel, Horsham is only 300km from Melbourne. About an hours drive short of the half way point between Melbourne and Adelaide.

Sorry for no pictures. The photos of me handling the snake didn't work, and I have technical problems with my computer so I can't post the pictures that did work.

Cheers,
Wombat.

The first time I ever handled a snake was at a mates place. He had 2 coastals, 3ft and 7ft and a darwin around 5ft. He said that he would get the smallest snake out for me to hold but I seen the big one and told him that I wanted to hold it. He got it out and handed it to me, I was scared stiff. It started hissing at me but I got the bug and 2 weeks latter I had a stimmie that looked like an overgrown worm.

My computer glitches seem to have cleared up so here are three pictures of the diamond I handled. They are not of me as the attempted pic of me didn't work. :(

I was told the pet shop owner bought it at the Ballarat show about 5-6 months ago and the seller told him that it was "born" just before the show.

I will not be buying this snake.

Cheers,
Wombat.
