Heating My Enclosure????

I have a 1.2 x .35m glass tank with a metal mesh type roofing, and under the glass at the bottom there is some polystyrofoam type material which i suppose acts as a soft barrier to the wooden frame it sits on. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice as how I could set up a heat mat? Because I've heard that you should try to put it under the cage as putting it in there may cause my snake to burn?
Any advice would be awesome!!

Maybe inside with a ceramic tile on top? With a thermo too.

Wrong. IMO The main cause of snake burns is using a thermostat, when the heating goes off the snake wants to get warm and wraps around the bulb, it clicks back on and burns the snake.

Thermostats arnt needed if you use common sense, especially in a fishtank as the glass will mostly stay at room temperature. With a heatmat you shouldnt really need anymore heating, i havnt used mat before but im sure someone else will be able to tell you how to set them up, some mats are a suitable power without use of a thermostat.

i don't think you'll burn a snake with the heatmatt. If you put it directly under the tank and monitor it so you get it right you shouldn't have a problem. The heat matts now come with a sticky side as well so you can stick it to the back or to the side and let the heat come in through there. What are you putting in the tank?

The way I use a heat mat is by putting it between two pieces of ply under the enclosure... This ensures it doesnt get too hot and burn the snake... But you should really look into a heat lamp to heat the enclosure as it is far more effective...!

I use a low wattage heat cord under a large click clack without a thermostat. It does sometimes go mid to high 30's on warmer days but there is enough floor space without cord to find a cooler spot and there are also branches to climb into above cool and hot ends. Most of the time on the hotter days my bredli is still sitting in her branch over the hot end.
