hi all,

noticed something odd on a few of my snakes lately and its starting to concern me as i dont quite know what it is.

first off one day about 4 weeks ago i had my 3 yr old maccie out and his throat was all puffed up. extended under his throat for about 1 inch right front jaw bones down throat. it looked as though he had swallowed some air and couldnt let it out. i poked it and it deflated (as though he was holding his breath).

also noticed this about 2 weeks later on my 3 yr old bredli, no puffiness but he always seems to have this slight wheexe when hes gripping things, like straining a little too hard and getting the grunts?

then noticed it tonight on my 3 yr old carpet, same thing, puffy in throat, poke, went down. when it went down it was accompanied by the distinct sound of air being wheezed out, like a slight but not deliberate hiss.he however opened his mouth to release the air.

now am being paranoid for no reason? their throats do not look like this all the time, and i only notice it very occassionally, ie twice with the maccie, once with the bredli and once with the carpet. i've never seen or heard of this before. there is no discharge and it doesnt seem to be causing them any discomfort, what could it be? has anyone heard of anything like this before? any help would be much appreciated!

thoughts are respiratory infection? never noticed this on any of my other pythons.

Could be coming up to a slough, they produce more mucous at this time and sometimes it blocks their noses. Not saying that is what it is,best to get it checked out.

Mmm i have no idea. But the fact that it's wheezing does seem a little concerning... If it doesn't seem to be causing them any discomfort then I wouldn't waste the money going to the vet. Perhaps look up and experienced breeder and give them a call. Explain the situation and see what they think. Then if they advise you to go to the vet go for it!
Let us know how it goes!

well the shedding theory seems to be true for the maccie, he shed last night. and none of the others are displaying any of the symptoms at the moment, all seems well. am still keeping a close eye on them.
