Hi I was given a reptile enclosure from a friend of mine and it contains a heat rock. From what i've heard these can be terribly dangerous to your, but i've seen alot of websites that say you should have one in your enclosure... This information is confusing me and was just wondering what you's all thought. Your advice would be muchly appreciated and any suggestions you may have. I have a 2m L x 1.5 H x .75 D.

Heat rocks are okay. But I'd only use one 'in addition to' your primary heat source.

I have a bearded dragon enclosure that measures 2m x 1m x 0.5m (so pretty similar to yours) and in it I have a heat lamp but I also have a reptile one heat rock. I have it running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and have had it running for almost 6 months now. It is fantastic, I recommend them, but I would be sure to stay with well known brands and check them every now and then to make sure they're still running okay. Also, watch your animals, make sure there are no burns or changes to their behaviour. Best of luck :)

Heat rocks are af almost no value to any reptile. They are very inefficient and they can pose a serious risk of burning your animals. I think you'd be lucky to find one serious keeper/breeder who would recommend them.

1st off if your keeping a bearded dragon .... dragons rather over their back heat than under them heat so i'd say go for a basking lamp.... and substrate will depend on what you want to keep ....

Ok thanks for that. Im actually going to be keeping a MD python :).

ok alot would say newspaper as its cheap ...... some would say butchers paper ..... i personaly use breeders choice under my snakes just because it is a little more easy on the eye then news paper ..... again it depends on what your after

whats breeders choice? Im looking for something that is going to be extremely practical and easy to clean, but also something that will be rather attractive..
