Wow, doesn't look that comfortable...

Crank that temp up asap to 34 ish to help him out, thats really all you can do from here I guess...

you can buy heat mats that can go inside the enclosure of if that fails there are heaps of heat rocks you can use for your snake,
as far as the guinea pigs are concerned, the thing i would be worried about are if they have be sprayed and if they also have any diseases themselves. something to think about at least!

i can see a thermometer on the glass and on the wall, which one are you reading the temp off of ? both will give you an inaccurate reading of what the temp under the ceramic heater is. (basically right where she is laying) if that tells you that it is 34c then you should be ok,
OK here come the questions:
if the previous guy wasn't heating her, does that mean you put the ceramic heater in ?
if so what wattage is it ?
the wire that is on the side vent should be on the outside not the inside, she may damage herself on the raw edges, and is that the only vent ? i hope there is some in the roof,

weetbix boxes make good temp hides, dont know if she will fit though, but you get the idea.
You can buy heatmat from the petshop or online, but with the ceramic heater, but she may need to get closer.

you should buy frozen rodents from the pet shop or a breeder, then you now they are parasite free, if you go down they need to be fully defrosted (not in microwave) and fed warm by putting it in a jug of hot tap water.

@ sophie. sand will stick to the prey if its damp and can cause impaction (constipation) which is not a good thing.

Sorry for the epic post, but hopefully its providing some help.....

did you buy this python from a breeder or just out of the classifieds in the local paper ?
I've just re read this entire thread, and from the info you are receiving from the previous owner doesn't seem consistant with what a breeder, or even an avid hobbyist, would provide,
did they give you a license number ?
i'm getting the impression this is possibly a wild caught being sold off for profit ! !

sophie and her partner are the owners of the snake and she will be able to answer more questions about the actual workings of the enclosure, and previouse owner, which i know she is keen to get on here when she finishes work today but from the information that has been received from everyone today ,i am wondering myself just how much the previouse owner new about looking after her, soph and shannon have had her about 3 weeks and were sold the enclosure with her. soph has had a little bit of experience with snakes from working in the pet shop, but more with the pythons in this area ( mildura ) sophie is licenced but not sure about the previouse owner ,or how long he actually had her for. sophie may know that information.

thanks again for all the feedback.

did they buy it locally or from somewhere in Qld, i'm guessing local if it included the enclosure , but you never know :D

if sophie worked in a petshop and has been exposed to reptiles then i am surprised she got live g'pigs to feed her. i thought it was common knowledge that frozen defrosted is the preference, 2 weeks of freezing takes care of any potential bacteria and parasites

I've always used heat radiators which i got fron the herp shop on line, never had any problems

yeh i put the heater in i think its 100 watts , she came with the enclosure and there are air vents on the top made a similar kind of way ... yes i know very well that you have to buy the frozon from rodents from my experience working in a pet shop ... but it is very hard to tell my boyfriend this as he has believed every word of the guy who we bought it off

slap your boyfriend for me will you please, ! ! i thought it odd for someone to feed pet g'pigs, who had worked in a pet store with reptiles,....

any chance you can get a temp reading on the floor under the lamp (where she is laying)

we bought the snake off a guy that we used to do business with wen i was working in the petshop shop and yes we did get a licence number

yeh i can put the themometer under to heat lamp wen i get home

good to hear you have a number, at least its trackable, (fingers crossed you have a permit too )

do you have a thermostat, (you didn't answer Zoojas) 100 watt should give off more heat than indicated earlier, maybe put something in there a bit higher so she can get closer it if she chooses too...

yep i sure do ..... i will be makin my boyfriend buy all this for his snake tomorrow ... will do

You definitely need a thermostat. It could easily get over the desired temp of 32-34 with a 100 watt ceramic.
