My coastal shed on thursday night and the very tip of the tail (approx 2cm) didn't come off.

I know how important it is to get it off - but just exactly how do i do that?

It seems to be stuck - it is pretty dry.

If i soak her, how long do i soak for and is there any other alternative that will make it less stressful for her?

just soak it in some water mate just trickle it over her to dampen it and soften it then gentley pull it off.............good luck:D:D

Just gently peel the remaining skin off between your fingers like you're pulling a sock off a foot. It'll come off relatively easily.

JungleRob, there's not really much to hold on to get it started - and i have long fingernails (of the fake variety) so hard to get a grip if you know what i mean!

If soaking doesn't work try putting him in a wet (not soaking, just damp) cotton pillowcase. Let him wiggle around in there for a while.
It worked for my hatchy who had some shed stuck on his mid section.

Twinny soak him for about 1/2 hour but keep him under supervision, if you need help PM me

In a case like this does a snake realise it still needs to get the shed off of its tail or as far as they are concernded are they fine? Like do they continue to try to rub the tail on things?

try putting him in a damp warm pillow case for 30 minutes. if the shed dosent come off in the pillow case just gently rub the retained shed with he pillow case when you remove your snake from it

You can also put olive oil on the dry area, it will soften it up to slide off.
Dont leave the shedding on as it can cause the tail tip to drop off.

when my stimmi's skin on the tip of her tail didnt shed i got an icecream container n put luke warm water in it and held her (gently) so the tip of her tail was sumerged, i did that for about 10mins and while she was slithering through my finger the rest of the skin peeled off, she didnt seem to freak out, she even slithered herself into the water so she was almost fully submerged

Hi all, thanks for all your replies. I have tried soaking and tried olive oil, going to try again this morning.

She doesn't seem to realise that it needs to come off. I am just talking to Lssah at the moment and i am sure i will be able to convince him to come around and help me - out the goodness of his heart and all - hee hee.

well after an hour of webcam coaching from the fabulous Lssah i finally got the skin off! She seemed to be pretty happy after and it was a good bonding session for her and I - as some of you may recall I was quite scared to handle her.

She has struck at me a few times now and so i am less freaked out by that. I am just loving her!!!

Thanks for all your opinions!

haha good stuff! my angry female jungle shed this morning and the same thing happened to her just the tip of her tail, and like everyone else mentioned this can turn into a big problem if it goes unnoticed. but yeah anyway she wasnt happy with me trying to get it off and im a massive sook dont like getting bitten (even though i know it doesnt hurt!!!)

what happens if the shedding on the tip of the tail doesnt come off???
Does the tip eventually just faal off??
Can it be harmfull to the snake??

It can cut off the circulation to the tail so in time the tail will drop off i have had the same problem with my spotted i soaked then used a damp facecloth to rub it off!
