Hey guys.....
So I've given dodo the flick! They're hopeless

What internet provider do you use and how reliable are they?
Speeds, dropouts etc?

Anyone in South Western Sydney use TPG? How are they?

So this is the internet and nobody can recommend an internet provider? :( Dissapointing

I am with TPG. They are OK for the price. I do experience dropouts, but I think that is more to do with my distance to the exchange than anything else.

Check out what speeds other people are getting in your area: TPG's DSLAM Coverage Maps

Thanks :)

I spoke to the neighbour's, one of them is with tpg and averaging 3mb.
The other has just signed with iinet naked dsl and I'm looking at exetel as well.

Internode are great...
Internode were recently bought out by iinet. The plans are still the same check them out I get a decent download speed

The wait times are great to if you have problems and there Australian easy to understand and very helpful.

You've got to take in the account the quality of your equipment Router phone line where the modem is if using wireless...

Ive been with internode for years and refuse to look at other providers. Very helpful on the phone and no need for an interpreter.

iinet have been a awesome provider and been with them for years. Great customer service and technical advice. Highly recommend.

Was looking at the iinet and tpg naked dsl.
Will have to check out internode.

We were getting constant drop outs and dial up speed on an adsl2+ line, it was ok at first then slowly degraded like I was being shaped until it became ridiculous.
The modem and home line are fine here, have had them checked.
Spoke to dodo about 4 months ago, then it took 2 months to actually report a fault after tech support troubleshooting several times (like nails on a chalkboard) then telstra tech came and looked, found a fault on the line and supposedly fixed it.

When I told dodo tech it wasn't fixed they marked it resolved anyway then put a monitor on my line for 24 hours. I pointed out that I wasn't happy and that the fault was still there.
They agreed to call me @ 5pm the following day to check the progress.
Whatever they did killed my line completely about half hour after the call and it was dropping connection every 5 min.

5pm the next day passes and @ 11pm when I'm in bed the phone rings, waking up the whole house..... its tech support clearly in an offshore call center, asking me if I'm next to my modem.

The tech guy got an ear full and the next day I was let out of my contract after refusing their 1 month free, then 2 months free net and giving them the ombudsmen and fair trades contact details....

They even had the hide to try and charge me a $351 early exit fee -_-

I've been with TPG for around 3 years now - I don't have a single complaint. I have their ADSL2+ home phone package - comes out to $65/month I think. Never dropped out, super fast and reliable. I do a fair bit of online gaming and haven't had any issues. I'd highly recommend them.

We are fairly heavy users: Over 400gb downloads a month and always pwning nubs online :D

My list of preferred in order:

1. Internode - Solid as, never dropped out, awesome service, techs actually have a clue. My fav
2. iiNet - had these guys for a year or 2, was also great. 2nd to Internode
3. Optus/Bigpond - currently with Bigpond atm (noob housemate signed up with them) and no complaints yet. Solid aswell.

Stay away from the smaller ones like TPG and dodo. TPG have a horrible rep for putting to many connections on too little bandwidth. Many have issues of disconnects all the time and also VERY slow during peak times. Mind you this doesnt affect everyone as NotoriouS has mentioned (i'd say he would be one of the luckier ones :)). I never experienced any "slowdowns" or disconnects with the ones i have listed, peak hour or not.

I will be going back to Internode when we move home soon.

Hope this helps :)

Another major bottle neck is the routers they send out for free when you sign up. Most are pretty bad if you start connecting multiple devices.

I dont even take their routers out of the box :D

Strongly suggest you do a little research on which router is best. I picked up our current billion router at about $100. Using a higher quality router will also help with disconnects, slow speeds and also WAY better wireless speed/reception. :)

Thanks for the responses.

I think I'll be going with iinet. They offered no contract and no setup fee with 200g adsl2+ a month for $79.
I can fast churn with them and only have a few hours downtime
That way I can give them a go and if I'm happy I'll change to naked dsl.
If not I'm not locked in and can go isp shoping again in a months time :)

We are usually pretty heavy users but with the speeds I'm getting from dodo I can't even stream a YouTube video without it freezing, lagging and constant buffering

used iinet for a few year they are good am now with telstra, they are expensive but they are ok so far.

Been with tpg for 6 years. Had issues early on , was resolved quickly. I gsme every night and never hsve drop outs. In thr fine print of every isp is they reserve the right to throttle your connection at peak times. Normally with torrents. I had issues with WOW but after s couple of emails they stopped restricting my net and never hsd an issue.

Btw I hate using my galaxy to reply on forums
