It happens a lot and I would probably take for free a sick or injured animal to help it but it is illegal.

Herpetofauna must not be sold or given to any person who does not have the appropriate licence or theappropriate skills necessary for the proper care of that animal. It is also illegal to buy or accept wildlifefrom another person who is not lawfully keeping the animal.
It is illegal to sell and give away, or buy and accept a protected animal if the animal shows signs ofillness or injury, without the written approval of the chief executive. A reptile that has a parasitic infectionwill ordinarily show signs of illness.
Movement of herpetofauna across state boundaries is subject to the law of both jurisdictions. Consultthe relevant conservation authorities for advice on permits for the interstate movement of herpetofauna.
