RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Lol have a read what these losers say!!
I think there's a very important lesson in here for all of us. We must all remember that most people don't like reptiles, most people (including some very influential ones) don't think we should be allowed to keep them. Our voice is very much smaller than those of the irrational and misguided animal liberationists. Many laws have been passed to put restrictions on us because of negative public opinion of us. These laws continue to be put in place, in large part due to public opinion of us. It is the responsibility of all of us to do our best to put out as good a public image of ourselves as possible, and the absolute worst thing we can do it go on about using our animals to cause others pain. Even if these people are irrational and abusive, we must stay calm and put forward logical and polite arguments, or risk losing what we have. If this sounds like scare mongering, keep in mind that in some parts of the world, the RSPCA has successfully banned the keeping of herps. The Australian RSPCA has a very big following and a huge amount of power, despite being run by terrible people and the banning of herps is on their agenda.
The best arguements we can use are those involving the raising of public awareness etc and reminding people that reptiles are as beautiful and valuable as any other creatures.
Many people here know that I love a good joke and am often not squeamish about stirring things up, but there is a time and place for most things, and neither for others.
Happy herping, let's look after each other.
