hi hope everyone had a good mothers day.

Just a quick question p.s maybe not so quick after finishing lol, i have a microclimate DL1 ( dimming model ) with night eye ( dont use the night eye) and i have a 50w exo terra infared globe running off it for a few hours a day, i also have a 7w heat mat with its own built in thermostat running seperate.

Im looking at getting a new heat mat with out having its own thermostat and would like to use it on the microclimate along with the globe. atm with the globe off inside my hide rock with just heat mat it sits around 32-33*c on the floor when i turn on the globe with the temp setting at around 23* on the microclimate the temps get to 34-35 inside the hide rock but only about 26*c ouside the hide rock so i stopped using it for now.

What im thinking is if im running both the heat mat and globe off of the thermostat and having the probe in the hide rock with the heat light off the temp should be 32-33* and when i turn on the heat lamp as well during the day im hoping that the heat from the mat will drop and the globe will match the temp of the mat? would this work that way or would i have to buy a seperate thermostat for the heat mat?

Im also going to run a timer on the heat lamp to turn on for 7-8hrs a day. sorry if u cant understand it its been in my head all day at work.

Thanks for any help.

I asked pretty much the exact same question of the guy who I bought all my gear off. He basically said run the heatmat 24-7, but on a thermo to prevent crazy malfunction (Cheap switching thermo will do). Use the fancy thermostat to control the heat lamp during the day, with a timer as well to keep it off at night.

No doubt someone else here will have more to say.

i have a heat mat with a inbuilt thermo already running at 32-33*c but when i put the heat lamp on the temps in the hide rock on the warm end go upto 35-37*c so i stopped using it for now i was hoping if i could run the mat 24/7 and heat lamp on a timer off the microclimate that when the heat lamp is on the heat mat temps will drop to stay 32*c

exactly what i want to do but when running the heat mat with the in built termo the hide rock is at 32*c, and when i turn on the light the hide rock on the warm end gets to 35-39*c, i was just wondering if running the heat mat and light on the same CM will it dim in power so that both the light and heat mat run at 33* and when the light turns off the heat mat gets more heat to run at 32*c by its self again.

im hoping to get a new python soon and was going to use my old heat mat with a click clack and use a new heat mat and heat lamp with the microclimate thermo to save me $100 on having to get another thermostat

personally if you talking in a viv i'd do away with the heat mat, and just use the heat lamp, as long as you have a basking spot of 32-33 Baloo will be fine and will move to where he needs to be to self regulate his temp,

i've often seen people comment that you shouldnt rely on the thermostat readings for an indication of temperature, and use a thermometer in the location that you want regulated and then adjust the thermostat until you hear it 'click' when the thermometer is at the required temp. If you are running a heat mat, a heat lamp and a light you are going to have fun regardless....
(i dont use thermostats so if anyone wants to argue what i've said, go right ahead.)

i hope you have more than one hide in there for Baloo so he has somewhere else to hide if the temps in his hide get too much,

planning another python already ? LOL, that didn't take long !!!

i have a digital temp reader in the hide at the hot end on the floor above the heat mat and have the heat mat running so the temp monitor reads about 33*c ( have never used the thermostat temp dial for temps), thought if i have the temp monitor probe a inch or so above the ground and make i so it reads 33*c an inch above the heat mat then the heat mat may get to hot for the snake to be in the hide on the floor and then never use it so thats why i have the probe inside the hide rock on the ground so it dosent get too hot, correct me if this is wrong.

i also dont want to use the heat lamp 24/7 because the viv is in my room and i hate light at night ( i didnt get a ceramic emitter because it was $90) and i already had the heat mat i just wanted a basking light to run for a few hours a day.

i do have more than 1 hide as well i have a rock hide and a skull on the cool end and i have a rock hide and a small container i made ito a hide as well on the hot end and they also have branches to go up on as well. ( currently my snake is asleep on the top of one of the branches )

my light im running puts off no heat because its a cold cathode so only heat source is the heat mat and lamp.

I'd be more inclined to run the two seperately, rather than on the one thermostat, basking light during the day and the heat mat at night, (i know he is young so warmth 24/7 won't hurt) but i would be keeping the night temp a little lower than the day temp, enough to keep the winter chills at bay,

Maybe post a pic of the viv so people have a visual guide as to where your mat and lamp are situated,

hmm that could work i was just thinking of using the heat mat as well as the heat lamp during the day because when i set the microclimate to 30*c the thermostat alarm went off telling me it could not reach the set temprature while running the globe at full power the MC probe is a few inches above the ground under the heat lamp. also was hoping to run them both off the one termostat so i didnt have to pay another $100+ for another thermo plus having to have 2 probes and 2 power sockets.
